A quarter of a million badgers were shot in England over thirteen years to control bovine TB.
In a single twelve-month stretch, the testing regime slaughtered 22,934 cattle.
Thirteen years of national argument, and all of it was about the smaller number.
Clarkson's Farm gave one of the larger number a face. She failed a routine test last July, was pregnant with twins, was taken off her calf, and was destroyed. The bull's result came back inconclusive. Farm shut, nothing in or out for two months, because that is how long you wait before you may test again.
Here is what the vet actually did to her.
Clipped two patches of hair on her neck, one above the other. Measured the skin at each with a pair of callipers. Avian tuberculin into the top patch, bovine tuberculin into the bottom. Then he left, and came back seventy-two hours later, and measured the same two patches again.
Take the swelling at the bovine site. Subtract the swelling at the avian site. Four millimetres or more and she is a reactor, and a reactor is destroyed.
Four millimetres. The thickness of a pound coin.
Notice what that test is not doing. It is not finding the bacterium. It is not looking at her lungs. It asks her immune system which tuberculosis it recognises more strongly, the cattle sort or the bird sort, and reads the answer off her neck as a lump. A cow can be riddled with it and barely reply. A cow can reply loudly and be carrying nothing at all. Her breeding changes how loudly she answers.
It is essentially the instrument Koch handed the world in 1890. The target for a TB-free England is 2038.
Every argument you have ever heard about bovine TB was about the animal in the hedge. Not one of them was about the pound coin.
Given the intense rainfall every year on the UK, there is no excuse whatsoever for a lack of freshwater. It’s only down to a lack of political will, made worse by privatisation. It’s a huge national resource that needs harnessing for emergencies such as extreme drought anywhere!!
A goat is the only livestock a person with no money can own.
No barn. No grid connection. No feed bill, because it eats the bramble on the verge, the scrub on the wasteland and the bits of hedge nothing else will touch. No land you could ever have sold for anything. No vet on a retainer. Nothing a bank has to approve, nothing a consultant has to model, and no minimum viable holding size.
You need a rope and a bad field. That is the whole capital requirement.
There are getting on for a billion of them, on every inhabited continent, and they are how families across most of the world stay the right side of destitution. The animal of the poor is a ruminant, everywhere, without exception, and it has been for ten thousand years.
Now, the goat itself, which is where it gets undignified.
A goat does not graze so much as audit. It will walk the boundary of any new field within the hour, apply weight to every joint in the fence, note which posts are soft, and file that information away for a Tuesday. It will eat a thistle that a cow would step around and a bramble that a sheep would sulk about. In Morocco they climb the argan trees, six or eight of them up in the branches at once, standing on wood, eating fruit, looking down at tourists with the expression of an animal that has heard the argument about land use and remains unmoved.
It will also stand on your car. There is no nutritional case for this. It is simply higher up.
Every conservation body in Britain that has run out of options on a scrub-choked hillside has arrived, eventually, at the same conclusion a Somali herdsman reached before anyone wrote anything down. Put a goat on it. The goat does not need briefing.
And the animal that asks for nothing, works ground nobody else can use, and keeps a family fed on a hill with no road to it, is in the emissions column of a document being drafted in a city by people who have never once in their lives needed one.
Nobody who has ever depended on a goat is in the room when they discuss the goats.
Could someone kindly explain to me why someone in their 20s who has never or barely worked thinks that they are entitled to the same level of assets as someone who has worked and paid taxes for over 50 years?
Do they not understand the principle of annually accruing value?
Ursa Ag recently set shockwaves in motion by marketing a line of tractors with no onboard computers at all.
Tractors these days are fragile, overpriced monstrosities in which everything is done by computer. They break down constantly because of excessive complexity, and only authorized repair firms are allowed to fix them, at wildly inflated prices and with long delays.
Ursa Ag’s tractors are on the other end of the spectrum. They’re simple, sturdy, easy to repair, and cost a modest fraction of what the big boys are charging. Unsurprisingly, the demand is so high that they’re scrambling to expand production lines, because what they offer is what farmers actually want. It’s also the kind of tractor that was standard on North American farms in 1970 or so.
Once again, somebody pushed the rewind button on progress, and the people most directly affected by it couldn’t be happier.
🚨 Anthony Fauci literally wrote in his diary Covid was only a 0.2% fatality rate
Anthony Fauci is confronted over writing in his diary that Covid 19 was essentially just the flu but then and locked down for a global pandemic and mandated vaccines
“Dr. Fauci, you admitted in your own diary that COVID was nothing more than a flu — Are you ever going to admit that you killed millions of people through your poison shots? — When are you going to take responsibility for your mishandling of COVID Dr. Fauci?“
Here is exactly what was written in Anthony Fauci’s diary
“acting like a bad influenza in its transmissibility”
“and that the case fatality rate was “more like 0.2-0.3% rather than 2.0%.”
It’s time to arrest Anthony Fauci for crimes against humanity
He literally wrote that Covid only had a 0.2% fatally rate and then tried everything possible to force everyone to get these experimental dangerous vaccines
