We got a fine new stand at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street. Right outside @beanandleafcork!
What a lovely addition - thanks @corkcitycouncil 😇
Even people who love their cars, or really need their cars, or both, can still probably admit that the worst thing about the city they live in is that there are too many cars.
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen was filled with cars until a 2 year pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
@PadraigRice Great idea. Can you find out how much the owners are paying for having the footpaths blocked up and out of use for many years. It would be nice to have the footpath back at least 🙏
Niche but bear with me —
Right now, #CorkCC gives property owners 50%-off on commercial rates when a property is vacant. 🤯
A public consultation is now open on whether this should change.
It's easy: Just mail [email protected] before Monday, 30 September with your views.
And here we go.... terrible, dangerous and anti-social driving around #CorkCity today. Pedestrians and Cyclists paying the price every time. While I was waiting to cross with my 10 year old the cycle lane and pedestrian crossing blocked for 3 sequences +4 vehicles each time.
