Here is a story about two interns who worked together 14 years ago, went their separate ways and now have come full circle to lead a congressional office: https://t.co/1cyjL9n0KF
The House met at 5 today...and proceeded to kill a bill from coming up on the floor, at least temporarily. The measure (HR 82) concerning Social Security with 330 co-sponsors was in the mix to be brought up next week in the chamber..then this happened: https://t.co/3vZK8fPJKN
@McDonalds yeah I tried the chicken big mac yesterday at my local franchise....as the kids say....it was "mid"...I've had a lot of big macs in my time and this didn't do it for me...I wish I had been in your focus/test groups to provide feedback...
@WNBA pls rescind the c clark tech from today's game. she got it for being upset at herself for missing a shot, not arguing with a ref, player or coach.if she gets 7 techs & misses a game, all your efforts to pump up the league will lose a lot of validity as people will walk away
Last week, we lost Judy Schneider. A Congressional Research Service employee for 40 years. I interned at CRS for almost a year and knew her well for many years thereafter. Always willing to talk to me and help. RIP Judy. https://t.co/8tRFaqE7IA
Today is the last day for Walter Oleszek who has work at CRS for 55 years. He is a legend in understanding the federal legislative process and congressional procedures. I did a profile of him for Roll Call at his 50-years mark. https://t.co/fMjg9wiTqd
With T and I cmte chairman Peter A. DeFazio announcing this will be his last House term, will DC Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton finally get to be the top Dem on the panel as either chair or ranking member..might be a first for a House delegate/PR resident commissioner?
There you have it....after months of negotiation, the bipartisan infrastructure bill passes House, 228-206, and has now been cleared by Congress and is headed to the White House where President Biden will sign it into law.
and so far 3 and a half hours on a budget procedural vote related to the BBB bill...halfway to setting a new House record for longest floor vote...which ironically was set earlier today
The longest open House vote is 2 hrs and 51 min in 2003 on the Medicare Part D drug benefit plan bill until now with this motion to adjourn as it relates to BBB....dems still trying to finalize votes of mod members
#RIP Willard Scott
"Willard Scott is a great American, a great Virginian, and a man who is beloved in the Washington, DC area ... USA Today's telephone poll confirmed what we all know: America loves Willard Scott."
-- Rep. Frank Wolf, March 2, 1989
Been awhile since I've tweeted but tough week for me. 2 colleagues, @ktullymcmanus@MeganScullyDC, are leaving CQRC and lots of good reporting and editing go with them. And with Congress doing long days for us reporters and editors who cover Hill markups, I need a weekend break.
@MeganScullyDC Congrats! I have been around the Hill for a few years and have seen the great reporting and now editing work that Megan has done. She understands defense policy well and now is taking on a new challenge. All the best!
@ktullymcmanus Congrats! I've seen you grow from your days as an intern to markup coverage to covering the House. You've done great work and your future is incredibly bright. All the best!
Having talked to john lewis many times over my career, very thoughtful with answers, almost always when approached said how are you or what's up my brother, one of the nicest and most decent folks. While Earth lost a powerful and passionate voice, heaven just got a little louder
