Today I met with the European Union Political and Security Committee (PSC) chaired by H.E. Ambassador Delphine Pronk.

I welcomed the long-standing and comprehensive partnership between the United Nations and the European Union and expressed my appreciation for the EU’s strong political and financial support to the UN system, and for its principled commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.

I exchanged views with the 27 PSC Ambassadors of EU Member States on a range of global crises, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, and the conflict in Sudan.

We also discussed the need for a renewed and reformed multilateral system as the UN approaches its 80th anniversary. I underlined the importance of the Pact for the Future and welcomed the EU’s strong engagement in its implementation.

🇸🇰 Minister J. Blanár: Nesmieme zabúdať na všetky obete, a preto si túto históriu musíme pripomínať, aby sa už nikdy nezopakovala. Dnešný Medzinárodný deň pamiatky obetí holokaustu je 80. výročím oslobodenia najväčšieho nacistického koncentračného a vyhladzovacieho tábora Auschwitz-Birkenau. Nezabúdajme na hodnoty, ktoré sú dodnes zakotvené v Ústave Slovenskej republiky – rešpekt k ľudským právam a rovnosť všetkých ľudí bez ohľadu na ich vierovyznanie, farbu pleti alebo iné názory. Nezmyselné zabíjanie či nenávisť nepatria do demokratickej spoločnosti. Je nevyhnutné presadzovať mierové riešenia, chrániť ľudské životy a ľudské práva za každú cenu.

🇸🇰 Minister J. Blanár: We must never forget the victims, and we must remember this history to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated. Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. Let us uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution of the Slovak Republic - respect for human rights and equality for all people, regardless of their faith, skin color, or differing views. Senseless violence and hostility have no place in a democratic society. It is imperative to promote peaceful solutions, protect human lives, and defend human rights at all costs.
