@SuzanneArronte@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hi Suzanne, I agree with you. It is completely in our power to support our students needs and be able to help them succeed. It is also import to show them that we care.
@MarManeh81@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hi Marina, I also think that it is important to be able to show student the patience and care that they deserve in order for them to feel welcome.
@KenefskyV@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hi Abigail, I agree with you I also think that it is very important for the students to feel safe and comfortable enough to express themselves.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 I will create a safe and brave space for all students by supporting everyone and being that person they can depend on. I want there to be open communication and a comfortable atmosphere that welcomes everyone.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 To have empathy is to be have open ears and an open heart. It is important to be able to connect to people and what they’ve been through to help them for the better.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 We can be advocates for our students by listening empathetically because all students come from different backgrounds and it is important for us to be supportive and deepen our understandings of each child and their daily lives.
@Gissell22076662@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Great point Gisselle! I think that it is important to allow students to find different strategies that work for them. If they have an open mind about numbers it can influence the way they problem solve in their daily lives.
@bemrsaguilar @WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Yes, Maria great point! “Number talks” is a very useful strategy that can mold the students thinking process to represent effective strategies. I think this is a challenging yet engaging way to keep students learning ways to solve problems.
@alejandraa_ml@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler I completely agree with you Alejandra! I think that at a very young age many students are discouraged because they are made to believe they don’t have the capability of being good in math. This does cause them anxiety and they push away the subject.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Q5: A benefits for students when participating in “Number Talks” is the emphasis of mental problem solving. This is a way to challenge the students slightly in a way to keep them engaged and it gives them the ability to use various strategies all while in a safe space.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Q3: Some reasons for math anxiety are established because the students are under the impression that in order to be good in math they must have a fast recall. They are taught to use math facts in unproductive ways therefore hindering their ability to progress.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Q1: The memorization of math facts are unnecessary and damaging because it doesn’t allow the students to expand their thought process. Memorizing limits the students capabilities by making them rely on distant memories.
