@ritholtz@JamesSurowiecki Also tradeoff w short and long term. Raise prices 40% on some items (and margins 100%) and you still draw customers for a while, or sometimes. They'll move away eventually, but not til they see that premium is $50, not the $10 they thought they were paying.
Today in the U.S., corporations will steal $137 million in wages, rich people will steal $2.75 billion in taxes, and 1,300 people will die from poverty, air pollution, and medical error. Think about who benefits from the news ignoring this and focusing on low-level crime instead.
Arsenic found in the water at the Riis houses in NYC. The water is undrinkable in Flint after 8 years. 180,000 people without water in Jackson, MS. The water in O’ahu is poisoned by jet fuel. But the media is focused on shoplifting. We need environmental justice & we need it now.
An SUV driver killed a 2 year old in this crosswalk last week and said she stopped at the stop sign. Watch as 72 drivers blow the stop signs at that intersection in under an hour. Only 2 stopped 😡 #StopSignsDontWork
Meet me there tomorrow at 10:15a to protest! 1/x

The man behind me on my flight today was wearing a mask, and when his seatmate sat down she asked whether he wanted her to wear a mask. He told her it was her choice but that his wife is immune compromised. She chose to wear it.
An underappreciated struggle in data science is trying to not sarcastically answer:
"How many users did we have last month?"
with:
"That depends on what you mean by 'have', 'users' and 'last month.'"
it's been a week and I still can't get over this sob story of a millionaire landlord worried he might have to start paying more than $0 in taxes

Mostly I just want to point out that you can agree it's not in FB's long-term interest to incentivize rage-bait—and still think that FB is in fact doing that. These points are not hard to reconcile: Companies do things that aren't in their long-term interest all the time!
🚨🚨A bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers just reintroduced legislation to ban noncompetes nationwide.
Noncompete reform would be a huge win for American workers, entrepreneurs, & the innovation economy. And it can get done *this year*.
