MacFarlane: I'm filling a notebook with misinformation spreading about January 6th today. The idea that these cases were wrongful, no case was overturned, not a one on appeal. And lots of people appealed. They had a 100% success rate for juries at trial.
Trump looting almost $2 billion from the government coffers to pay his supporters is one of the largest scandals in US history.
But our press is so beaten down and the public has become so fatigued by his constant criminality that it's barely a news story.
House Speaker Johnson argues that $200K isn’t enough for members of Congress to support their families, so they should either get a raise or be allowed to trade individual stocks. Otherwise, he says, America won’t attract qualified people to serve.
Whether Republican or Democrat, I think we can agree they’re in office to SERVE, it is called being a public SERVANT, and we don’t need them doing it for decades. One or two terms, max. After that, they get so captured by special interests they’ll do whatever it takes to stay in office. No thanks.
As for stock trading, the evidence is overwhelming that people picking individual stocks underperform the market. The only way a member of Congress beats it is with inside information, which both parties have shown, repeatedly, they’re willing to use and make unearned, unethical profits on the backs of the American taxpayer.
There should be no raises and no stock trading allowed for anyone in Congress
Republicans no longer have the advantage on the economy because they’ve decided to copy Democrat policies on credit card caps, trade policy, nationalizing, private sector, companies, and dictating who’s allowed to buy homes.
Remember when JD Vance preened at the Munich Security Conference about the Trump administration’s passion for free speech:
“So I come here today not just with an observation, but with an offer. And just as the Biden
administration seemed desperate to silence people for speaking their minds, so the Trump administration will do precisely the opposite, and I hope that we can work together on that.
In Washington, there is a new sheriff in town. And under Donald Trump’s leadership, we may disagree with your views, but we will fight to defend your right to offer them in the public square.”
Ashley St. Clair confirmed the WH runs group chats telling these accounts what to post. Within minutes of shots fired tonight, before there was any news of casualties and before the President said this exact talking point, this was the chat in real time.
Shortly after taking office, Vance used his speech at the Munich Security Conference to scold European allies for their outrageous assaults on free speech principles. But Orban banning political opponents from state media didn’t stop Vance from campaigning for his bff.
Watching fiscal conservatives defend Trump is mind-blowing.
The man is single-handedly responsible for almost a third of all US public debt ever accumulated.
By every financial metric, he is the least fiscally conservative president in the history of the country
💯 As @johnddavidson argues, the president’s extreme threats, even when not carried out, send the world the message that U.S. policy is not governed by just war principles but by “might makes right” realpolitik. And sending that message is itself immoral and corrupts consciences.
That’s not at all the job of the Attorney General. Not even close. The AG doesn’t work for the President. He works for the American people. His job isn’t to “execute the president’s agenda.” His job is to fairly execute justice in America. These people are fucking everything up.
This is beyond bizarre. A sitting VP of the USA attacking our close allies in Europe (you know, those bureaucrats in Brussels!) in a stump speech for a self-described illiberal politician that has the support of Putin. The Republican Party I grew up with would cringe at any American politician doing this, let alone a Republican!
Statement by President George W. Bush on Robert Mueller:
"Laura and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Robert Mueller. Bob dedicated his life to public service. As a Marine in Vietnam, he proved he was ready for tough assignments. He earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart before returning home to pursue law. In 2001, only one week into the job as the 6th Director of the F.B.I., Bob transitioned the agency mission to protecting the homeland after September 11. He led the agency effectively, helping prevent another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Laura and I send our heartfelt sympathy to his wife of nearly 60 years, Ann, and the Mueller family."
