@viii_xiiu96 I see this as the world needs all different people. not everybody can be an artist, or a politician or an athlete or a teacher. We need people in the world who have huge passion and dreams and also people who have love for the small everyday things too!

It is true in the US--as everywhere--that so much of the best writing remains in the underground, in the unofficial, unanointed spaces. I try really hard to honor those spaces by sharing them. Quietly, intensely, the underground changes the soil from below.
No. “Hard to pronounce” = “different from my culture”
I refuse to whitewash my characters. There are Japanese names, Arabic names, French names.
If you take the time to learn a name, it becomes familiar.
Someone’s name isn’t invalid just because it’s from a different culture.

i took a break from my writing residency to go to a very sweet @jvplive action in miami beach, which ended up being pretty surreal. while we were singing about justice to tourists at an open air shopping mall there were dozens of parrots loudly fucking above us... happy hanukkah
