Frost damage to our flowering vines in #Cranborne. Hoping we still have some flowers that set! Last year our miniature family orchard produced almost 60lts of wine. Doubt tgat this year!
2025 has been a good harvest from both the Plantet and the Baco Blanc, 5x volume of ‘24 and 3x of ‘23.
Will see how much juice we get from the new press.
Rare opportunity to join in our usually fully booked fabulous monthly supper club, a taste of the 20’s. Make a night of it with an epic B&B offer too! 19th March. Details see👇
Family day harvesting, figs, apples and kiwis. Other than the modern mushroom trays, the trolley and harvesting pole have now been used for at least 4 maybe 5 generations of our family.
The bird netting is up in preparation for the harvest to ripen. Alas with such a wet summer mildew has been an issue. Fingers crossed for an Indian summer to boost the sugar content! #vendage2024#Dorset#HomeGrown
Interesting read from @CranborneEstate https://t.co/Sv6JA55ifI well timed as have just wondered around French woodland that’s been left to naturally regenerate. Posts in foreground were from a vines left to naturalise approx 40 yrs ago. 2nd pic is of close to nature managed oaks.
A weekend of opportunities to benefit #Cranborne. Volunteer for the village litter pick with Cranborne Bloomers on Saturday 10am &/or help create our community orchard @CranborneGrove Sunday 10.30am. Details below
Is spring on its way? Despite the miserable damp weather it is not cold! The sea buckthorn is just breaking into leaf! Will this be the first year I can harvest the #diabetes helping superfood from it?🤞The cluster of #darlek s are forcing a few rhubarb crowns.
@RobsAllotment Quite agree, they are fantastic, each year I plant another couple of rows and have them between rows of perpetual spinach, seems to work well.
Just started clearing the runners, a bit late due to the vindage, when is it too late to collect the beans for next years crop, will give it a go with these. What do you think @theterrywalton After all still picking raspberries at same time as festive holly for @Lafosseindorset
Incredible the volume of grapes this year harvested a few weeks back. The first time our family have had a significant vindage in over 1/4 century. From the Loire to #Cranborne Dorset. Refreshing family traditions!
Further posts will follow our #wine making journey.
How lucky to be where we live. Whilst bimbling around the moon lit allotments, heard deer other side of hedge, saw🦇, heard several 🦉 all in 5 minutes. #Cranborne#Rural#Dorset another heads up, next month legendary @raymond_blanc has a new series on Royal Kitchen Gardens!
Preparing the nets to cover the vines as last year we were too generous with the volume of harvest shared with the #Cranborne wildlife. They can munch on our autumnal berries but our 🍇 are off their menu in ‘23. #Vendage#Dorset#Homegrown#allotment
