I moved my career to Europe in 2018. At first I was reluctant to leave my research and colleagues. But work life balance became a reality and research opportunities have been great. I would be happy to chat with anyone going through this now. https://t.co/m2qO6oUWMr
New paper from my talented postdoc Nerea describing how 300000 L industrial photobioreactors for algal carbon capture are in fact unique Arctic marine ecosystems, with core microbiomes and succession dynamics #algae#CO2#Microbiome

Happy to announce my second 1st-author paper is out🥳 Pangenome + Transcriptome = Insight into the microbial chassis-effect @microbe_angler@ASMicrobiology

My third preprint is out! The #synbio community should start diversifying their use of host organisms as chassis!

Ever Wondered about engineering synthetic microbial communities?🦠That's got us intrigued! And so does the new paper from @LedesmaAmaro. They've developed tools to create co-cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for enhanced biomanufacturing. Thrilling!

New preprint by amazing PhD student @dennistcc
"Core" genes that control growth physiology shape the "engineer- ability" over different bacteria WRT synthetic gene circuits. Not "unique/accessory" genes &
debuts a new @synbio toolkit for Stutzerimonas!

We brought researchers , funding agencies, editors and students together to talk about how ecology can be rendered into biotechnology for carbon capture, sequestration and utilization. Thanks @uarctic! @UiTNorgesarktis#carbon#algae#biotechnology

Expanding synthetic biology: our study highlights the "chassis effect" in genetic circuits across bacterial hosts. Physiology, not just genetics, drives device performance. 🔬🧬 #SyntheticBiology

Very proud of @dennistcc ! His 1st, 1st author paper is fantastic! Thanks for helping us push the boundaries of broad-host-range #synbio from this unique #genome vs physiology perspective!

Y'aaall my first publication as 1st-author just got published😭🥳Its been a labor of love. Do the terms chassis-effect and genetic circuit buzz your buzzer? Then my paper is for you! #synbio#biodesign#biotech @baldwin_geoff @microbe_angler@BioDesignR

New Algorithm!
Do you clone a lot of plasmids? Are you tired of aligning plasmid maps to sequencing data, one by one?
Introducing Context Aware AutoAlign! Automated sequence alignments & model predictions for when cloning many protein expression plasmids.

Do you need to annotate a genome, metagenome, or metatranscriptome fast at scale? Take a look at MetaCerberus for functional annotation (KOs, COGs, CAZy, PHROGs, VOGs etc). All HMM based. #rawlab#teamraw

Just a check in with y'all to remind you that Tromsø is a nice place to study and spend time thinking about microbiology in the mountains 😁 #tromsø@UiTNorgesarktis
Why does Coca-Cola sponsor research on obesity? Why did BP introduce the personal carbon footprint calculator? In our new working paper, we offer an explanation: emphasizing individual action shifts whom people hold responsible for solving the problem. https://t.co/L5Fu1Y7qsa
George Loewenstein, @NickJChater, Yi-tsen Liao, and I show that people who read about actions individuals (vs. governments) can take are (1) less likely to propose systemic solutions, (2) hold governments less responsible for solving the problem, (3) think systemic reforms are less important, and (4) are less willing to donate to an organization advocating for systemic reforms.
Our findings provide experimental evidence for an issue raised by George & @NickJChater in a recent paper (i-frame vs. s-frame) and by @sosofancy, who sounded the alarm in the finance industry and coined the term "Deadly Distractions."
