@duolingo Sheer insanity that you ever thought language learners shouldn't be able to review lessons in the first place.
I'm not doing this to gain points. I'm doing it to learn a language. This requires repetition.
Please make the path optional. It just doesn't work for many of us.
@duolingo The update is absolutely terrible. Please, please make it optional. I'm a linguist and language teacher and I used to recommend Duolingo to all sorts of learners. I cannot and will not recommend this to anyone. The path is the opposite of helpful.
@deals4days2@Tony__Heller@realDonaldTrump No, they don't care how smart or dumb you are. They just know they'll get away with it because no one's going to do a thing to stop it.
@Timcast "Those people would still be here if COVID-19 didn't exist."
But that's just not true. Some would, but how many would have died soon anyway from flu, heart disease, etc.? And how many were accidental deaths WITH rather than FROM covid? We're not allowed to talk about it.
@russellgoodson1 Sorry to be pedantic! I love knowing this stuff, but whether it's actually useful is dubious. The main point is, don't second-guess yourself because of silly grammar rules. Nevermind Strunk & White. Just say what's natural and you'll usually be right, as you were the first time.
@russellgoodson1 Nothing wrong with what you said, which was already active. Grammatical passive would be "1917 has been lent to me by the library."
"Lent" vs. "has lent" has to do with tense. "Lent" implies a one-time transaction that's over. "Has lent" implies that the loan is still ongoing.
@SohrabAhmari Yes, but with the caveat that private schools may not be any safer from indoctrination. PSAs that come down from the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) are extremely woke.
@JazzShaw @J_Mu_G Both correct. Alumni is the plural of alumnus, the male term. In Latin, the rule is that when you've got a mixed-gender group, you use the masculine plural form to talk about everybody altogether.
It's not sexist, it's just how language works.
Wasn't my intention, but I ended up sitting down and reading the whole shebang in one go. @DougTenNapel's #bigfootbill is just that much fun. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the hookup, @douglasernst!
@douglasernst@DougTenNapel Awesome! I'd love to get my hands on The Finger of Poseidon, but I do already have Shadow of the Mothman. I hope that doesn't disqualify me. Either way, keep the great books coming 👍
@SeanParnellUSA Don't worry, all they got from me was a big eyeroll. They overplayed their hand crying wolf a long time ago.
Now it just reeks of desperation.
