LDP, Party in Power, Funded by the CIA in the 1950s-60s: New JFK Files Expose Japan’s Vassal Status Under Persistent US Imperial Control

Tokyo — Another layer of the postwar order peels off. Newly declassified JFK assassination files reveal that in 1996, Washington and Tokyo were still working overtime to hide the existence of the CIA’s “Tokyo Station.”

Not for national security reasons, but to protect the carefully maintained fiction of Japanese sovereignty.

A March 1996 U.S. State Department memo titled “Official Acknowledgement of Tokyo Station” shows then-Ambassador Walter Mondale and Japanese officials in full damage-control mode. They feared public confirmation of the CIA outpost would reignite scandals from the 1994 New York Times report alleging CIA secret funding of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Then-Foreign Minister Yohei Kono personally urged Mondale to keep it buried. Official proof, he warned, would hurt the LDP far more than unconfirmed rumors and threaten the entire U.S.-Japan security framework. In 1995, Kono had publicly claimed Japan had “no knowledge” of any organized CIA presence. Classic diplomatic theater.

This wasn’t simple intelligence cooperation. It was — and still is — the architecture of Japan’s vassalization. After WWII defeat, the United States imposed a constitution literally written in Washington, stripping Japan of full military sovereignty while turning the country into a permanent forward base for American power in Asia.

The LDP, allegedly groomed and bankrolled by the CIA during the Cold War, became the reliable local manager of this unequal arrangement.

Tokyo aligned with U.S. strategic interests first, genuine independence second.

Even decades later, in 1996, amid Okinawa base tensions and a U.S. presidential visit, both sides colluded to maintain the cover-up. Japan’s elite were terrified their own public might start asking uncomfortable questions about why a “sovereign” nation cannot officially admit to hosting foreign intelligence operations on its soil.

The latest batch of documents, released under President Trump, unredacted key references to Japan, Tokyo, and the LDP. It confirms what many have long suspected: the U.S. maintained control through money, bases, and covert influence, while Japan’s leaders submitted and pretended it was partnership.

This pattern is classic U.S. imperialism — installing compliant elites, writing their rules, and keeping them dependent. Japan traded its wartime empire for postwar client status. Its constitution remains a daily reminder of that defeat. The security treaty and U.S. bases continue serving American primacy above all.

How long will Japan accept this submissive role? The files don’t just reveal old history — they highlight a structural dependency that still shapes East Asia today.

True sovereignty requires breaking these chains, not endlessly polishing them for Washington.

Red Alert: Is another US invasion looming?

Two days ago, the US sent an aircraft carrier toward Cuba, and now a US commander is meeting with Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon about a potential invasion of Cuba.

The US has no right to invade, seize, or take over any country. Our government cannot even manage our own country, as 70% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing, and healthcare, and they don’t plan to help Cuba either. Their goal is to privatize Cuba to further enrich US billionaires.

Trump has hinted for months that an invasion of Cuba is imminent, and now it appears these tyrants might try it. Yesterday, US Southern Command, in a move clearly aimed at intimidating Cuba, posted the war trailer below of the USS Nimitz, the aircraft carrier they just sent toward Cuba.

But Cuba was not fazed and warned the US that any invasion attempt would result in a “bloodbath,” as they have every right to defend their sovereignty against the empire.

A UN school was targeted by Israeli artillery. At least 40 people who had taken refuge in a school run by the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) died in an Israeli attack.

The death toll rose rapidly as rescue teams began carrying out recovery operations among the building’s rubble.

Hours earlier, two other people died when Israeli artillery struck another school in the city of Khan Younis (south of the Strip).
And three more people died in another airstrike against a school in the Shati refugee camp, in Gaza City, according to medical sources.
These actions took place after a night of violent clashes in several neighborhoods of Gaza City (Tuffah, Zeitoun, and Shujaiya), which continued Tuesday morning in those sectors and in other urban areas of Jabaliya, Beit Lahia (north of the Strip), Bureij, Deir al-Balah (center), and Khan Younis (south).
‘The (Israeli) army cut the Gaza Strip in two and surrounded Gaza City,’ acknowledged Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
‘We launched this operation to strike Hamas hard, change living conditions in southern Israel, bring calm and security to citizens, and stop the smuggling of weapons into the Gaza Strip,’ Barak added, listing the objectives of the Israeli offensive launched on December 27.

Since that date, the offensive by the Israeli state—whose declared objective is to stop Palestinian rocket fire into southern Israel—has caused at least 635 Palestinian deaths (159 of them children) and more than 2,900 wounded.
