I think we would need to research how discount markets like Aldi, Lidl and even Trader Joe's impact places like Whole Foods and then other NYC chains before we talk about a handful of stores having such an impact

@ChiefsAndKSU @CharlesHuntNews @krassenstein On a small-scale like this, likely not. If it grows significantly to a hundred stores + across the city then yes. I think the growth is highly unlikely due to the costs associated with the subsidies.

People are creatures of habit so I don't see this causing a major divestment from mainstream markets.

@t7_linda You will either pay in the grocery store or via a tax hike. There is no escape because it has to be paid for in one way or another which is why this plan does not work. The solution is education and jobs.I would prefer to see free education to train people so they can find jobs

@harryjsisson Mamdani did not start this. New York City has offered universal free lunch since September 2017 and free breakfast to all students even longer, with universal free breakfast in the classroom fully expanded across all elementary schools by 2003. It's not Republicans, it's Trump.

Protecting renters from increases and then taxing those same people into oblivion will not solve the problem. The only way this problem is solved is through jobs and education

What I do not like is the fact that middle class taxpayers as always will bear the burden

I do not believe in regulating profit for a business; doing that reduces quality and choice. I do believe its workers should receive a fair wage and health benefits

@CharlesHuntNews @krassenstein While I agree that supermarkets run at razor thin margins and I do not agree with Mamdani's solution, he is not proposing supermarkets reduce their prices 30%; he is proposing opening no frills, city subsidized food stores that will be funded by taxpayers, unless I misunderstood

@krassenstein @CharlesHuntNews Income inequality should NOT remain unchecked and I agree that fixing that is integral to capitalism's success but Mamdani's supermarket 30% reduction idea does nothing but further burden middle class taxpayers who are already unable to manage their bills.

@krassenstein The city will have to buy inventory from the massive commercial suppliers.Taxpayers will be making up the difference for the manufacturing costs via subsidies. The solution is a self-sustaining farm. This is nonsense. It's just shuffling money around, not solving the problem
