In the mid to late 1700s, Obstetrics was introduced into America and White males started becoming the male source of maternal care for pregnant women. Smear campaigns appeared putting down the practice of midwifery. #BlackHistoryMonth

Even before the plantation, midwives played a major role during a woman's pregnancy. Their role became even more critical on the plantation since women were not allowed to go to the hospital.

Midwifery served enslaved women on plantations and continued to remain around for centuries. As time progressed, a shift occurred and the midwife started being removed from the maternal healthcare system, causing catastrophic damage 🧵 [thread]
