🚨 Jamie Carragher weighs in on Folarin Balogun’s controversial red card in USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, comparing it to Messi’s challenge against Algeria:
🗣️ “This is exactly the kind of decision that makes you question what VAR is actually for. Balogun gets sent off in a World Cup knockout game for what looks like an accidental coming-together, yet Messi does something very similar against Algeria and it’s waved away like it never happened.”
“Football fans have eyes. We all saw the Messi challenge — studs up, contact on the back of the leg — and nothing. Then Balogun gets the full VAR treatment and a straight red. How is that consistent? It’s not.”
“What annoys me most is the lack of any clear standard. If that’s a red for Balogun, then it has to be a red for Messi too. You can’t have one rule for the biggest names in the game and another for everyone else. That’s not refereeing, that’s favouritism.”
“The USA are in a World Cup knockout match, they lose their main striker to a decision like this, and people are left scratching their heads wondering why the same level of scrutiny wasn’t applied to Messi. It’s frustrating for the neutral, never mind the American fans.”
“VAR was brought in to clean the game up and make things fairer. Right now it’s doing the opposite — it’s creating more arguments, more confusion, and more suspicion that certain players are getting special treatment.”
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the laws have to be applied the same way to every single player on the pitch. If you’re going to be ultra-strict with Balogun in a massive game, then you better be ultra-strict with Messi as well. Otherwise the whole thing loses all credibility.”
“Big stars have always had an easier ride in some ways, but with VAR in the game now there’s no excuse for this level of inconsistency. Nights like this just make supporters lose faith in the whole system.”
“If football wants people to respect the decisions, then every challenge has to be judged by the same standard — whether it’s Folarin Balogun, Lionel Messi or any other player. Anything less and VAR is doing more harm than good.”
Following the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub, Orlando Firehouse 5 Firefighters placed 49 U.S. flags in the shape of a heart to honor the 49 lives lost. A decade later, we continue this tradition in remembrance of the victims and as a long lasting symbol that we will never forget.
🎗️ On #CancerSurvivorsDay, we honor survivors, those still in the fight, & the caregivers beside them every step of the way.
As cancer remains one of the greatest threats in the fire service, the IAFF will never stop pushing for the protections our members deserve.

The greatest trick DeSantis ever pulled was convincing Floridians that local government is the problem and state government is the solution.
If your mayor, sheriff, and county commission have to fly to Tallahassee every year to ask permission to fund basic services, the state didn’t shrink government.
It just moved it farther away and gave you less control.
We want to wish a happy retirement to 3 of OFD's finest District Chief Alissa Brown (27+ years), Lieutenant Chris Salter (20+ years) and Fire Engineer Pat Kelly (23+ years). Thank you for your decades of service and dedication to our city! Enjoy your well earned retirement!
As budget talks continue, Florida’s first responders must remain a top priority. Supporting the men and women who serve our communities is always worth it.

The Orlando Police Department extends its deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and to the family and loved ones of Deputy Devin Jaramillo.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
The poor are not there by chance or by blind and cruel fate. Nor, for most of them, is poverty a choice. Yet, there are those who still presume to make this claim, thus revealing their own blindness and cruelty. #DilexiTe
Florida #Gators at 1-3 through four games officially off to their WORST START IN 39 YEARS dating back to 1986.
It's Year 4 under Billy Napier, who is now 20-22 overall and just 13-20 against Power Four teams.
Napier is also 5-15 away from home and 4-16 against AP Top 25 teams.
We should all feel a deep sense of grief and outrage at the terrible violence that took place in Utah today. Charlie Kirk's murder is sick and reprehensible, and our thoughts are with his family, children, and loved ones.
I knew Charlie, and I admired his passion and commitment to debate. His senseless murder is a reminder of how important it is for all of us, across the political spectrum, to foster genuine discourse on issues that deeply affect us all without resorting to political violence.
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.
Honest disagreement makes us stronger; violence only drives us further apart and corrodes the values at the heart of this nation.
