Just got "the final notice" to renew a sub that doesn't expire for several years. #deceptive marketing. There is not even tiny print that gives the actual exp date. This is not typical elder abuse but seams designed to trap folks with poor memory.

@SmithsonianMag Oh look another month and another deceptive renewal notice. Renewal notice says renew by 10/30/21 but magazine sub doesn't expire until 2027. Renewal notice doesn't even give that date in the fine print. This is abuse of elder people.

Got to get the magnifying glass to see that existing sub is out 7 years already due to elderly parents just paying what looks like an expiring subscription!

Currently such material implies the sub is going to expire soon without giving an experation date or hiding the date in tiny print

@techbri @PatelcoPays @dudescrazy123 Giving an estimated ETA probably doesn't help any negotiation and might have legal consequences if they miss it. Even providing an ETA for when they think they can provide an ETA would be helpful. Ripping the bandaid off is not easy but stringing members along is also not good.

@techbri @PatelcoPays @dudescrazy123 Understand. I've helped create updates for that legal process for release. I'm looking for an estimated ETA. Their incident managers should have a rough timeline by now. My heart goes out to them in what they are dealing with. This is tough. I hope they are not thinking of paying

@PatelcoPays @dudescrazy123 While it is nice to know status, many of us across the valley know a thing or two about breaches. We would like to see more transparency so we can make an informed decision. Are you still locked out? Did you have clean backups and are busy rebuilding systems? Estimated ETA?

@IanJohnBuckley @lemonodor Brings back memories from the 90s of setting up ground reference GPS antennas. Rings reduce multipath. The antenna I believe is set lower than one would if multipath is all you care about. Clearly trying to do more than just multipath. The width of the rings seems odd to me.

Just got the monthly scam renewal notice from @smithsonian magazine. This one says "final notice" even though the subscription goes for serval more years. Can this be classified as a type of #elderabuse as my parents would just pay every notice they got assuming it was due?

@lemonodor Nav system uses Kalaman filtering to provide an optimum solution. GPS receiver provide pseudo range. Inertial system provided raw measurements. Filter outputs positional data as well as estimated accuracy and correction data that are fed back into sensors and improve performance.

@averyhartmans I wonder when the credit card companies will implement voice print. That is a technology that identifies a person based on their voice. Some call centers use it to speed up authentication. In this case it might make it harder for the thief to impersonate multiple people.

Time to turn the calendar page as I just opened the December @SmithsonianMag misleading renewal notice. Same story as always. Many years left on the subscription but renewal notice makes it appear as if due to be renewed now. Great way to fool senior adults.
