Here’s my payslip as a first year doctor in 2005, next to a first year doctor colleague’s in 2023. 18 years later, their take home salary is less than mine was. I lived for free in hospital accommodation and had a fraction of their student loan.

@Dr_BellaR My preference was have normal day & sleep time the day/night before the shift (otherwise I spent it all anticipating the shift). On the day, I had a normal day, bed 4-7 (even if no sleep happened). Worked well for me, but I think everyone finds their own preference.

That's exactly the problem. 1 in 9 nurses left the NHS last year. Many go abroad or retrain in other fields. Only 21% of nurses say there are enough staff to do their job properly. Unsafe staffing levels harm us all. Pay them their worth.
