@MarioNawfal Last year, Chinese Coast Guard vessels were active in the contiguous waters around the Senkaku Islands for 355 days, with 1351 vessels recorded — both record highs. 2025 is already on track to exceed those levels.
@MarioNawfal The number of sightings of Chinese combat ships and aircraft carriers around Japan’s south-western islands and the Soya and Tsugaru straits jumped from three in 2010 to 52 in 2024.
@MarioNawfal Japan’s Ministry of Defense stated in its 2024 Defence White Paper that scrambles to intercept Chinese military aircraft by the Japan Air Self-Defence Force surged from 96 in 2010 to 464 in 2024.
Still confused about why transmission project costs blow-out?
Here's a nice little example of the process that leads to the "colouring-in" of designs that leads to higher costs.
When project proponents write to say "you missed a bit" and plead to have their particulars better accommodated.
This is from Spark Renewables, and their Dinawan Energy Hub writing in to respond to the Environmental Impact Statement for VNI West.
Now VNI West actually ends at Dinawan, where it joins Project Energy Connect.
Spark used to be a shareholder in Transgrid, and their Director on the board of Transgrid helped lobby to get the financial loans from the federal government that got Project Energy Connect built in the first place.
Happily for Spark, they had some land right near a major substation, where the project would fork with VNI West, now it's a big proposal.
Now they're pointing out that Transgrid has agreed to the "Staged Approach" for VNI West being a 500KV link between Dinawan and Gugaa. But that's not VNI West, it's a section of the line that's project Energy Connect.
So Transgrid is getting one project's budget to cover an uprate of another project.
And the Spark, who benefits most direction from that uprate connecting them to HumeLink at 500KV is politely reminding Transgrid that their EIS for the project who's scope is being stretched to cover that upgrade of ProjectEnergy Connect should reflect that promise.
And, of course, there's complexity for the projects overlapping. It should be aweseome, one would think, to be right there. But lines will have to cross... That will be very very high towers. Apparently not yet accounted for.
Oh, and another transformer too please. And some extension here and there to connect to projects...
All this wasn't in the previous (nominally extremely detailed, and final) EIS-level plans being consulted on.
Last night I spoke to Chris Kenny on @SkyNewsAust about how the renewable energy transition is turning into a nightmare. In particular, the blowouts in transmission costs, which mean renewables simply cannot be low-cost.

Once again, this is what our country needs. Javier Milei fired 50,000 government employees, cut the government by 30%, and reduced the government ministries from 18 to 8, and achieved positive fiscal results.
Talk about cutting costs.
Viva la libertad! @JMilei
