In New Rules for the New Economy, you predicted value moving from firms to networks, but the last thirty years often concentrated the network’s returns in platform companies. Do you see that concentration as an intermediate phase, or as a structural failure mode of network economics?

AI seems capable of intensifying it: creation gets cheaper while control of compute, data, distribution, and accumulated learning becomes more valuable. In protopian terms, what mechanisms could bend that trajectory back toward networks that expand participants’ options rather than mainly the platform owner’s?

OSS may actually be one of the clearest expressions of “socialism with Chinese characteristics”: shared means of production. The stranger question is why we’re comfortable with closed AI labs using the output of public knowledge and open-source ecosystems as inputs, then enclosing the resulting capability.

I have a three-tier access model, public access through a VPS that also serves as a gateway; Tailscale network through a Linux box that use to be the home NAS and a Mac mini that serves as the HTPC & home for my open claw; local access from my phone/tablet/laptop/desktop for local tasks.
