Spotted in the newsroom this week: @sagaftra President @SeanAstin👀
Like us, Sean knows the importance of a union. Maybe @FiscalNote should support its own unionized employees, too.

The CQ Roll Call Guild is lunching out today for a fair contract.
After almost two years of bargaining, it’s time for @FiscalNote management to get serious and bargain with us and invest in its newsroom.

“My problem with the Ethics Committee is it just takes too damn long."
As calls for reform and accountability for sexual misconduct on the Hill continue, many are voicing frustrations about the slow-moving and opaque nature of the Ethics Committee.

The company walked away from the bargaining table and laid our coworkers off.
Now our storied newsroom is that much reduced and four people are out of their jobs. Please consider donating to help them out: https://t.co/AbRowVz6h0
Today is Budget Day, a Big Deal for CQ Roll Call. We're going to publish dozens of stories today about the administration's request for funding next year.
It feels a little more hollow this time around, because the company just laid off four journalists.
These layoffs should never have happened in the first place, and our colleagues deserved better. We won’t stop fighting for them and for the better newsroom we know is possible.
We lost years of institutional knowledge, policy expertise, and reporting chops when they departed. We are lucky to have worked with them and heartbroken that their time at CQ Roll Call has been so abruptly cut short.
Today, @FiscalNote laid off four of our members after refusing to bargain with us over these cuts.

(4/5): At this rate, it is unclear what management’s vision for the future of this once thriving newsroom is. Shrinking this newsroom is a choice that management doesn’t have to make.
(3/5): Our members power CQRC — from the production desk to spending hours covering markups of critical pieces of legislation like the NDAA and the Farm Bill. They deserve fair severance, transparency and good-faith negotiations from management.
(2/5): Management has a legal obligation to bargain with us and must not treat these layoffs as a foregone conclusion. The CQRC Guild vehemently opposes any proposed cuts to the newsroom.
(1/5): Today, the CQRC Guild will be entering decisional bargaining with management over the proposed layoffs of four of our unit members. Laying off our members without bargaining with the Guild is illegal and these layoffs never should have been attempted in the first place.
Thank you to everyone who has offered support for the Washington Post journalists impacted by today’s layoffs. If you would like to buy some beers or food to support our colleagues today, you can Venmo me. We are so grateful for your kind words, truly. https://t.co/wlIPR6gixw
