My dream Gen X retirement community isn't a golf course or a luxury resort.
It's a fully renovated 80s/90s shopping mall.
Half the building is apartments. The other half looks exactly like the mall we grew up in.
The Waldenbooks is now a massive library where you can spend hours getting lost in books.
The food court is part of your meal plan, so you can grab an Orange Julius, a slice of pizza, Chinese food, or sit down for a proper meal at Shoney's whenever you want.
The movie theater plays classics every night.
The arcade is free and packed with Pac-Man, Galaga, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong, and every cabinet game we spent our allowance on.
Sam Goody is still there. You can browse CDs, listen to Bowie, The Ramones, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or whatever you love. They even host monthly dance nights for anyone who still remembers MTV when it actually played music.
The Sharper Image has massage chairs you can reserve whenever your back reminds you that you're no longer 25.
The pharmacy is still an Eckerds.
Blockbuster is fully operational. You can rent movies, video games, and spend 30 minutes wandering the aisles before choosing something you'll probably fall asleep watching.
There's an aerobics studio offering Tae-Bo, Richard Simmons, MTV's The Grind workouts, and every fitness craze we survived the first time around.
There are fountains everywhere, a lazy river because we've earned it, and plenty of benches where people can sit and talk instead of staring at their phones.
Every morning we go mall walking before the stores "open."
Every evening we meet friends at the food court.
No algorithms. No endless scrolling. No influencers.
Just books, music, movies, arcades, friends, nostalgia, and the feeling that for a few hours, it's 1995 again.
Honestly, I'd put my name on the waiting list today.
@FOIANate diminish writ large. At the end of the day, FOIA teams want to move cases. None of particularly care about individual requests/requesters by themselves. They care more about moving their entire queue so they can go coach little league. :-)
@FOIANate I think that's an unanswered question. The software as built (trust me I'm part of building it) takes into account the rule on segregable information and foreseeable harm standards. I think the throughput will be increased and with that oversight on individual requests might

Remember kids, if you won't pay for fantastically written viral articles on little covered slices of American life, there soon won't be any reporters to bring you more fantastically written viral articles on little covered slices of American life. Also, subs are just $1 today.
Judicial review under #FOIA isn't working as Congress intended. Functional deference, procedural exceptionalism, and atextual doctrines are problematic. I address this and more at @knightcolumbia's blog as part of the "Reconstructing Free Expression" initiative. LINK BELOW!
🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting after an elderly man who stopped at Walmart after church, told a Black female employee she'd nearly hit his wife with a cart and never apologized...
...the teen called her PARENTS who then BEAT THE ELDERLY MAN TO DE*TH in front of his wife of 42 YEARS!!!!
Yes, you read that right.
He asked a teenager to say "excuse me" and the teens parents k*lled him for it.
His name was Bert Atienza. He was 77 years old.
He and his wife Josephine had been married for FORTY-TWO YEARS and on Sunday, June 7th, they went to church.
Then they stopped at the Walmart to do their grocery shopping.
Josephine says a 17-year-old Black female employee came through with a heavy cart and nearly slammed into her.
No "excuse me." No apology. Nothing.
So Bert did what husbands do, he spoke up for his wife.
In his wife's words, he told that girl: "You almost hit my wife with your heavy cart, and you did not even say excuse me or apologize to her."
Josephine says the teenager then THREW A CAN at them as they walked away. It missed.
The elderly couple, not wanting any trouble, just kept shopping.
Minutes later, that girl's PARENTS showed up at the store, found the 77-year-old man and beat him to de*th.
In his wife's words:
"They crowded my husband, one of the adults hit him in the face. He fell down on the floor. I was terrified. I don't know what's going on."
The Medical Examiner's ruling: blunt head trauma.
WE DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS!!!!!!!
Over at #FOIAadvisor, Allan (@AllanBlutstein) has posted an interesting update from #CRS on a new sidebar analysis re: informational injury and standing after TransUnion. Link below! This is an important topic that hasn't gotten enough attention. (1/8)
I sent public records requests to Morgan State University abt Prof. Stacy Patton who blamed Austin Metcalf for crossing "black boys' boundaries."
Her supervisor, Prof. Ray Winbush, freaked out and emailed the VP to:
"Do the right thing and not the white thing." 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Prof. Winbush was so upset that I requested public records that he profiled me & my requests as fulfilling some doomsday prophecy of "attacks, "assaults," & "harassment."
Are these chicken littles for real?
Literally just asked for some slides & emails, bro.
All his blustering insistence that they engage in academic pursuits, not ideological ones, ended w the most braindead, racist, ideological call to action:
"Do the right thing, not the white thing."
It's just records requests. The sky is not falling. These are not serious people.
