Mark Carney could not be more out of touch.
With Canadians missing meals and mortgage payments, and days before he addresses the European Parliament (instead of the Canadian Parliament) we learn in a foreign newspaper of secret talks to make Canada an "Associate Member" of the European Union.
This is not about diversifying trade: we have had tariff-free trade with Europe for over a decade. They would buy more of our goods today if the Liberal government would get out of the way and permit mines, pipelines, LNG plants to produce and ship them.
Canadians deserve answers: Is the WSJ report true about associate membership in the EU?
If so, will European border policies apply in Canada, further overwhelming our immigration system while our youth can’t find homes?
Will Canadian waitresses struggling with rent have to pay tax dollars to the bloated EU bureaucracy?
Will Canadian small businesses be buried under the red tape of Eurocrats that have never met a Canadian entrepreneur?
All questions I’d ask in Parliament, but it is shuttered.
And one more: who decides for Canada?
The Welland welder did not elect a Eurocrat to regulate our steel. The Saskatchewan farmer and the Atlantic fisherman did not choose a Brussels agrifood regulator that has never even seen our prairies or coasts.
We will NEVER be the 51st U.S. state. And we will NEVER be the 28th EU state.
We are Canadians. This is our home, our freedom, our sovereignty, our people.
Now and forever.
I won’t stand for Terry Pratchett slander. His books radiate humanity and wisdom; he wrote about society in all its aspects (death, faith, poverty, the post office, the police). He was voraciously curious and seemed to have read and to know everything. And yes, he was hilarious.
A few months ago I made a video about Ottawa spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to train officials how to dodge questions at committee.
When I watch Mark Carney answer literally any question… it stops looking like a coincidence. This looks like a coordinated effort to avoid accountability.
I want to ask clearly and simply: What do you think?
@rwesthead It’s funny how you never tweeted about the verdict from the courtroom but you’re hot and horny for this
Professional ambulance chaser you are sir
Harrison "But at every moment, they have caved to the president."
"We're getting a pretty good look at (Carney's) negotiation skills, David, and they're not particularly overwhelming"
"We lost on DST. We're losing on the Gordie Howe Bridge. He promised Canadians that he was going to be the guy to get a deal."
"And if this is the litmus test for what a broader CUSMA negotiation looks like, I think there's going to be a lot of Canadians with buyer's remorse" @KatlynHarrison
URGENT:
"I reached out to almost every newspaper inside Iran. No one will touch this story."
Zeinab Mousavi known as "Aban" is dying quietly in Vakilabad Prison, and Iran’s regime wants no one to know.
A barista arrested alongside her brother Hassan on February 24, 2025, Zeinab has been charged with moharebeh, "enmity against God", for protesting. The charge carries the death penalty.
Now, her health is collapsing. For several consecutive nights, she has been suffering seizures in her sleep. Her family and supporters are demanding her immediate emergency transfer for medical treatment outside the prison walls. That demand has been ignored.
The silence around her case is not accidental.
Sepideh Qolian, an Iranian activist who was herself just released from prison, tried to break it. She reached out to most major Iranian newspapers to speak about the deteriorating conditions of the December protesters from Mashhad. Not one was willing to publish it.
"I'm at my most helpless," Qolian wrote. "If I speak to foreign media, I'll be arrested again. The conditions of the December prisoners are very bad."
Iran has built a perfect trap: beat them inside, silence those who witness it, and punish anyone who speaks out.
Zeinab Mousavi may be executed for protesting. She may also die waiting for medical care she is being denied.
Her story is being buried in real time. We refuse to let that happen.

The Canadian Media Needs to Grow Up!
The debate over whether Canada is in a recession completely misses the point! Canada faces years of stagnation.

I hate this.
'Be glad women don't want revenge!'
It is surely one of the worst, most low-effort sloganeering forms of activism that exists in this space; not only because it is unproductive and divisive, but it is also objectively stupid.
Assuming this young woman is below the age of 35, and American, she ought to know, she has been advantaged at every stage of education, throughout her entire life.
She'll get better marks, for the same work.
She'll be treated better, for the same behaviour.
She'll have access to ~90% of gendered scholarships.
As a result –
She will be overrepresented in college, across every racial group, every year, and to a greater extent than the 'men' from the 1970s, who she now whines about.
She'll have better health outcomes than men, across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups; she will have lower mortality rates at every age; and will enjoy far more funding spent on her health, than what is given to her male peers.
In fact -
Even for suicide research, which is the greatest risk to young men's lives, she will get 33x more (!!) gendered funding spent there too.
There will be ten federal tax-funded offices dedicated to researching her health, with zero for men, and in every country on the planet, she can expect to live longer than men.
She lives during a time where she's paid, on average, more than men of the same age, even at the median.
If she ends up in an abusive relationship, she'll have access to billions of dollars of services, and support, and thousands of shelters; with virtually nothing for men.
If she goes missing, her case will receive three times more media coverage than missing men, and three times more again, if she's white.
If she commits a crime and goes into a criminal court, she'll be treated more leniently, and more likely to avoid a custodial sentence, even when committing the same crime as a man – doubly so for black men.
And that's not even getting to family courts, where the systemic advantages really stack up for her.
She will never be legally required to go to war, to be obliterated as many millions of young men have been before her; and she will not be imprisoned, if she refuses to go.
From the day she's born, her body will rightly be protected from genital cutting by law; while millions of boy babies are strapped down and mutilated, with no consent, no anesthesia, and no medical need.
She'll be –
Less likely to be homeless.
Less likely to die from drug overdose.
Less likely to die by suicide.
Less likely to be killed by police.
Less likely to be murdered.
Less likely to die at work.
Less likely to be criminally exploited.
Less likely to be assaulted on the street.
So... for what is she owed 'revenge' exactly?
And why is it appropriate for a woman like this, who has enjoyed all of the above privileges, and more, to piggyback-on and steal sympathy from women who lived hundreds of years ago, who she never met, and knows nothing about?
I imagine none of this has occurred to her.
I imagine she wouldn't believe it either.
This chronic victimhood complex pulls at the fabric of society in ways we cannot even comprehend, driving a wedge between us, and only serves to keep swinging the pendulum of equality, for eternity.
You are not owed 'revenge'.
You are already the beneficiary of far more than 'equality', in many ways that you don't even know.
You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me.
Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true.
Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response.
I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth.
The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts.
I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. It is targeted hatred and it is getting worse.
So my message is simple. Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the hand-wringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.
Canadians elected a Liberal minority, not a majority and trying to build one is a power grab.
I won't be crossing the floor. I won't betray the people who put their trust in me.
An Air Canada plane crashes, resulting in the deaths of two pilots.
Over on Radio-Canada, the "conservative" on the panel is having a fit that the Air Canada CEO didn't speak French in his video and demands his resignation over it.
Someone should let these people on the panel know that the victims in this tragedy were the pilots and the injured passengers, not the French language.
Just to be clear for the non-nuance crowd. I am not a “pro-Trump” person. I am a “stop being fooled by the deflection person.”
Trump is not in charge of Canada. He’s not responsible for our broken justice system, our broken immigration system, our housing crisis, our drug addiction tsunami, our inflation and our lack of economic growth.
We are.
And I’m sick of Canadians OBSESSING about things that are out of their control (aka America’s president) when they can’t even be bothered to pay attention to what’s happening HERE, to look at the unnecessary decline HERE, to look at the horrendous mistakes that our government is making HERE that put us in this unnecessarily vulnerable position.
Blaming Trump is honestly just lazy. He’s causing issues, yes. But if you’re not calling out our own administration and all of its massive failures, you’re not being a patriot. You’re just being lazy and you’re contributing to the decline of Canada, letting the Liberals get away with murder while you just stew about the orange man who you can literally do nothing about.
And if Trump really is the hill that you die on - maybe you should be calling out the guy that campaigned on getting us a deal.
I served my country for 22 years and went to war for it. I did casualty processing in Afghanistan and met many reporters as their tent was just inside the National Command Element (NCE)'s compound. One of these journalists was named Matthew Fisher. When I couldn't sleep late at night due to my role in theatre and what I had to do, I would often go watch the hockey game in Old Canada House. There'd I'd regularly find Matthew watching the game. We'd chat about the game, about Canada, about things, but never did he ask me what I did. I suspect that he knew what I did as it's likely that he saw me in the NCE compound. I liked that about him. I respected him, not only because he was a strong supporter of the CAF, but because of his integrity. Sadly, that integrity is lacking in today's journalists. You are lacking in that integrity. You'd be wise to take lessons from Matthew and what your fellow journalists used to be like.
You outright choose to tow the Liberal way and refuse to hold them to account. I would have given my life for Canada, but now I can't even stand the thought of returning to it. That's because we don't have a functioning democracy. See, I'll teach you what you've clearly forgotten Rosemary. In a functioning democracy you need a strong, independent media to hold the government of day, of any political persuasion, to account. Instead, you attack the Official Opposition like they are the government. Why Rosemary? Why can't you be like Matthew and show journalistic integrity?
1. You have no idea how many years I absolutely HATED Valve and Steam, from 2009 to 2013, because it was so crap back then. Steam literally had to turn me from a hater to a fan from sheer service improvement.
2. That’s great…problem is other than GoG, other storefronts actually don’t really care to give a better or more unique service that makes them proper competitors to Steam, hence winning over more gamers organically.
3. Instead of properly competing, Stores like Epic resort to more underhanded tactics, namely poaching devs to release Exclusively on Epic. Don’t see you calling that out.
Your argument is weak, if your only point is “you are only saying this because you are a Steam simp”.
My gaming philosophy.
In the last years of his life, Roger Ebert famously claimed that games were "not art" (he was referring to computer games, but I'm sure he'd apply it elsewhere). He gave three reasons to back up his opinion.
1) he had never played a game
2) you can win a game
3) Art must consist of a single visionary. (This objection seems odd for a film reviewer, since films are famously collective projects.)
Penny Arcade skewered Ebert with a single comment; "if a hundred artists create art for two years, how is the end product NOT ART?"

Cathal Kelly, you absolute embarrassment of a Canadian columnist—sit the hell down, eh.
I’m a Canadian through and through. I love hockey more than my morning double-double. I was gutted when Team USA beat us in overtime for gold in Milan, but you know what? Those American kids earned every bit of it. They played their hearts out, won fair and square, and getting flown to the State of the Union, clapped into the Capitol, and celebrated by their whole country? Good on them. That’s sports, that’s pride, that’s awesome. I’m happy for the players.
But your headline? “The State of the Union was a zoo – and Team USA the monkeys”?
Jesus Murphy, Cathal. What in the actual fuck were you thinking?
You took a moment that should’ve been “yeah, it stings after we lost, but congrats to the champs” and turned it into the most childish, classless, sour-grapes garbage imaginable. Calling Olympic gold medalists “monkeys” in the national paper? That’s not sharp commentary. That’s not even decent trash talk. That’s the kind of low-brow, playground crap that makes every reasonable Canadian’s blood boil—because it makes all of us look like bitter, jealous assholes who can’t handle anyone else winning.
We already get enough “sore loser” jokes south of the border. You didn’t channel the natural hockey-rivalry salt into something clever or witty. You went straight to zoo noises like a drunk uncle ranting on Canada Day. Now Americans are screenshotting your lede, laughing their asses off, and we’re all stuck looking small and petty.
You didn’t represent the Canadian perspective. You embarrassed it. You embarrassed the game we love. You embarrassed every one of us who can cheer a rival’s success without melting down into monkey memes.
Next time you want to write about hockey or politics, maybe leave the animal insults in the reject pile and try a little dignity. Some of us actually love the game more than we hate losing.
Do better, Cathal. We’re better than this crap.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to watching highlights from 2010 and pretending the Leafs aren’t cursed. Go Canada… but next time, do it with class.
@fivecentcones@sappholives83 There was a coding error that filtered any couple that left the trial without giving a reason as the husband divorcing. It was a clear data error. I heard that when they tried to replicate it it found spouses of both genders were less likely to divorce their partner when sick
