Ranking products in Google:
> Identify a keyword to target
> Search it in Google
> Analyze the pages ranking
> Update your product to model the content on the pages ranking
> Reach out to sites for backlinks to the product
Ranking products in AI models:
> Identify a prompt to target
> Enter the prompt in ChatGPT
> See what "best X" listicles are being cited
> Write your own listicle (10-20 variations) that models the listicles being cited, but includes your product as the #1 option
> Reach out to sites to get your listicles published
The steps are essentially the same.
You're just seeing what's working and modeling it.

Latest in SEO: I can now confidently confirm that AI Mode search queries are being recorded in Search Console.
There are some important insights from my experiment that involved hundreds of SEOs searching for the same query within AI Mode.
Here is a summary of the primary findings:
• It is only from around June 13th that AI Mode data will have started to be collected within the 'performance' report
• Only a very small portion of the experiment queries were included in my data due to accounts being opted into 'labs' and likely some exclusions in incognito while using a VPN for the US
• The data in GSC wasn't showing until today (when the docs were updated), and was backlogged going back to when it launched outside of labs
How does tracking work?
Based on the documentation updates, it's made out to be fairly straightforward with how impressions, clicks, and position are recorded for AI Mode within the 'Web' performance report.
The unit of links that appears on the right-hand side by default is recorded similarly to a standard AI Overview, where the entire set of visible links takes on position 1. For links lower down, it becomes a lot more complicated with how 'ranking' is perceived within the output.
Some general thoughts:
Based on my experiment and following the rollout closely, AI Mode data is being recorded in Search Console from around June 13th 2025 onward.
The rollout of AI Mode represents similar challenges for publishers as AI Overviews do, but there is still incredible SEO opportunity to make the most of across certain sectors – eCommerce in particular, in my experience.
