Did President Trump just save the U.S. men’s team? Or did he put an asterisk on any future games they might win in this World Cup? Read more in a special edition of the WSJ Politics Newsletter: https://t.co/aWpA8Cldso
Like I said, this now becomes a story about Trump, not a story about a plucky, fun-to-root-for team that has a chance to have the best World Cup finish any US Men's team has ever had. Just sucked all the joy out of it b/c he always has to be the center of attention.
Just to be clear, then. FIFA:
1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA
2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like
Smashing. All know where we stand
This is the best team the US have ever had and now anything good they have done at this tournament (and may go on to do) will now be completely overshadowed by accusations of corruption. Feel for Pochettino and the players.
BREAKING @TheAthleticFC
Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium with his one-game red-card ban suspended. Extraordinary development.

There are layers to the emotion for Portugal players and fans — tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the passing of Diogo Jota.
Ronaldo stands with tears in his eyes as the Portugal players applaud their fans, leading the team around the pitch with Diogo Jota's 21 jersey on.
For a moment, he was heading home in what is likely his last World Cup at the age of 41.
The dream is still on.
