🔥 Ring of Fire active again today June 30🔥
A noticeable run of earthquakes has been recorded across the Pacific Ring of Fire, with activity reported near Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Japan, Fiji, the Kuril Islands, Taiwan, Alaska and Hawaii.
The strongest listed so far is a magnitude 5.4 earthquake east-southeast of Kimbe, Papua New Guinea, at a depth of around 35 km.
Other notable activity includes:
🌍 M4.9 near Tonga
🌍 M4.8 east of Noda, Japan
🌍 M4.8 south of the Fiji Islands
🌍 M4.6 near Japan
🌍 M4.6 east of the Kuril Islands
🌍 Deep quakes near Fiji and Tonga
🌍 Smaller activity near Alaska and Hawaii
The deeper Fiji and Tonga quakes stand out, with some depths over 500 km, showing movement far below the surface along one of the most active tectonic zones on Earth.
Earthquakes happen daily across the Ring of Fire, but today’s spread from Japan to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, Alaska and Hawaii adds to an already busy week for global earthquake activity.
We will keep watch and report if and when needed.

Earths oceans are heating up significantly. Satellite data has revealed unusually warm water spreading across the tropical Pacific. This pattern is a classic early sign that El Niño is beginning to intensify.
El Niño develops when the trade winds that usually drive warm surface water westward across the Pacific become weaker. As a result the warm water shifts back toward the central and eastern Pacific. This movement alters the exchange of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere.
These shifts create widespread effects around the globe. El Niño can affect rainfall patterns drought conditions heat waves hurricane activity wildfire risks and winter storm paths. While the impacts differ by region the tropical Pacific is influential enough to change weather patterns in distant parts of the world.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that El Niño conditions are now present and are forecast to grow stronger through the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2026 to 2027. The World Meteorological Organization indicates that most climate models point to an event that will be at least moderate and possibly strong.
Researchers are monitoring the situation carefully. The previous strong El Niño in 2023 and 2024 contributed to pushing global temperatures into new record territory. This developing event is unfolding in a world that is already warmer due to human caused climate change.
The warmer background climate does not mean every extreme weather event in the coming months will be directly caused by El Niño. It does however mean that its influences will occur on top of an already elevated temperature baseline.
Satellites provide valuable early warnings. They track sea surface temperatures sea level changes and the movement of warm water across the Pacific well before the full effects reach the atmosphere.
At this stage the signal is unmistakable. The tropical Pacific is warming and one of the planets most influential climate patterns is becoming active once again. If El Niño continues to strengthen its impacts could reach far beyond the Pacific region.

Recently @NOAA announced the return of El Niño, as ocean temperatures in the tropical Pacific remained above average for several months. NASA scientists are seeing a complementary sign of El Niño: rising sea levels as warmer ocean water expands.
JUST IN🚨: A sprawling, double heat dome is currently taking shape across the United States, bringing dangerously hot, humid conditions to over 200 million Americans.
HEAT-FUELED STORMS 🌡️⛈️: An intense heat dome over the eastern U.S. is fueling ridge rider storms from the Plains to the Great Lakes, triggering a multi-day severe weather threat. Destructive straight-line winds and large hail will be the primary threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Full forecast:
Supercharged Heat Domes are appearing all around the Planet! Why? It’s a developing super El Niño combined with a much warmer Earth, spiking natural cycles with extra heat injected into the system and pattern changes augmenting the jet stream. The US will endure one of its most expansive heatwaves in history this week. Then another long lasting record breaking heat dome will plague #Europe again, back to back on its worst #heatwave in its history! With #elnino on top of a heated globe, expect the unexpected this year!!
🥵 HEAT DOME TAKES OVER: With more than 230 million Americans in the bullseye of a scorching heat dome, it's important to understand what that term actually means. This graphic outlines just how bad it can get and how long it might last.
Two separate high-pressure systems, one over the Southwest and another over the subtropical Atlantic, are expected to merge into a large heat dome over the central United States by the Fourth of July holiday. This could trigger the first major, widespread heat wave of 2026 across much of the South and Midwest.
A heat dome traps hot, humid air by acting like a lid, suppressing clouds and rain, and leading to prolonged extreme temperatures (often in the 90s°F with heat indexes exceeding 105°F). The heat will build first in the Gulf Coast and South, then expand into the Midwest, with the ridge potentially centered near St. Louis by July 1 and shifting toward Chicago by July 4.
NOAA forecasts high risks of extreme heat, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and South Carolina early in the week. The event poses particular dangers to vulnerable populations due to minimal nighttime relief and multi-day duration.
According to the Chinese Embassy in #Venezuela, Chinese enterprises in Venezuela have donated over 115 tons of relief supplies including food, drinking water, daily necessities, medical items and small construction tools as of Monday, Xinhua reported on Tuesday.
More than 200 tons of additional supplies will be delivered between Wednesday to Friday (July 1–3), while Chinese engneering firms have also deployed cranes, excavators and emergency generators to support post-earthquake rescue and recovery efforts, Xinhua reported.
South Korea's government and top tech companies are committing $1 trillion across three flagship megaprojects: $585 billion from Samsung and SK Hynix to build new chip fabrication plants and double the country's DRAM production within five years; $357 billion from SK Group, GS Group, and Naver to build large-scale AI data centers across outlying provinces; and a national push to designate physical AI a strategic industry, aiming to commercialize humanoid robots in 10 major industries by 2028. "Semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers are the triple axis for a great leap forward," said President Lee Jae Myung. Hyundai Motor Company has committed $5.8 billion to build a robot manufacturing facility, scaling up production of Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robots to 30,000 units annually by 2028. The buildout requires enormous resources: South Korea's energy ministry is working to secure 6.3 gigawatts of electricity and 650,000 tons of water for the new chip plants alone, plus 8 additional gigawatts for AI data centers. The expansion is not without friction. Hyundai Motor's labor union overwhelmingly approved a potential strike on June 25 over profit-sharing and job protections amid the company's planned robot deployment, and a state labor mediation committee has granted the union legal strike rights. Separately, South Korean policymakers have debated proposals to redistribute chipmakers' AI-driven profits to workers and citizens.
