Why CM Vijay can’t simply be blamed for the Coimbatore blast convicts’ parole!

Could sound like an unpopular opinion but hear me out without getting emotional. I have been responsible and cautious while writing on this topic.

The Tamil Nadu government has given parole to 5 convicts from the 1998 Coimbatore bomb blast case.

First of all, parole is not a permanent release. It is for a fixed period (few days up to 60 days), comes with conditions, and the convicts must return to jail after that.

The Coimbatore blasts were a serious terror attack in which many innocent people were killed and injured. So, any decision to give parole in such cases will naturally face criticism. That criticism is not automatically wrong, nor is it just politics.

At the same time, parole is allowed under existing prison rules for life convicts. Whether the government should have given it in this case is a matter of opinion. Giving parole does not mean the convicts have been set free forever.

Parole is not forgiveness. It is only a temporary legal arrangement. Blaming CM Vijay as if he has set them free forever misses the real point! @CMOTamilnadu @TVKVijayHQ
