Virtual reality music video I made with @U2 and Apple.
"It shows that Apple, one of the largest technology companies in the world and one very focused on creatives, is finally showing public-facing interest in virtual reality."

@Wired and @WaterSlicer with the scoop... in 2015.
Also a crazy time machine view into @aaronkoblin's and my life in those early years of mid-2010's VR startups that became possible after Facebook acquired Oculus.
Today marks an exciting new chapter for Within and Supernatural, as we officially join Meta. We're elated for the opportunity to bring joy, awe, wonder, and a happier, healthier life to more people around the world.
Here’s what it’s like to explain exercising in VR verbally to someone. Confusion and and a fair amount of giggling. Thanks @TheElliotPage for the valiant effort. Experiential things need to be experienced. One of the biggest friction points for our medium. https://t.co/PtPWiryRgM
@benedictevans But those concepts you’re talking about could be discussed with the class within the context of the time and place they actually happened. How would talking about concepts of Roman governance in front of a chalkboard compare to discussing in the Roman Senate after a session?
@benedictevans That vs illustrations in a textbook with a lecture in a classroom doesn't even seem close, no? Like a time machine vs a cave painting. VR is only a tool; it's not a magic bullet. It's hard to prejudge future uses before they've even been thought of or created.
@benedictevans History may prove you wrong on this one old friend. Why does learning in VR mean just "putting on some goggles and looking at 3D models"? What if the VR experience was your teacher inside of ancient Rome w/ you, teaching you while you're present together walking through it?
@Fongolia @beck@DavidBowieReal Thanks. It premiered in VR back in Jan 2014 at Sundance. Sadly it was never able to be released more widely because of the music licensing involved. https://t.co/jbNGGMMiXR
Happy to announce Within's augmented reality children's reading app "Wonderscope" has been acquired by Amira Learning. @WonderscopeApp@AmiraLearning@WITHIN

So cool! This is coming full circle as @kevinrose once kindly gave me the @milk twitter handle & @tferriss' 4-hour body book changed my life and my health back when it originally came out. So thanks for the shoutout, but also, thanks for everything else! https://t.co/DwRlTGUvSl
@Scobleizer@NimaZeighami@getsupernatural We use a photogrammetry solution originated by @debfx for the environments. All 150+ are 3D models with high-res 360 photos wrapped on top. Super labor & time intensive to build but the only way to get photorealism & proper stereo vision with realistic parallax on this hardware.
@NimaZeighami@getsupernatural Thanks Nima. Software craftsmanship is something we certainly care a lot about here. We strive to make things in the virtual world the way apple makes things in the physical world. With thoughtful design and a passion for bringing joy, awe & wonder into the lives of our members.
"I’ve always been obsessed with the idea of combining the natural and the man-made. That juxtaposition is truly beautiful. The question of what is natural and unnatural is very open.”

It is with profound sadness I learned of my friend Mira Calix’s passing. Now seeing through twitter just how many other lives she touched in addition to mine. We collaborated on an installation at @BarbicanCentre, for which she composed the most beautiful interactive music score.
