@forestvanslyke This is fascinating--I have to take the whole day off work if my pupils are dilated at an eye exam. It's completely debilitating. Never made the connection.
Men rely on the empathy of women to get away with what they do to women. Women's empathy is a critical component of patriarchy. It's why whenever women discuss patriarchy or men's abuses we're told we're cruel, asking too much, or worse.
“At a certain point, you cannot calibrate all your work to the dumbest person in the room” is such an exquisite response to terrible script notes, I’m going to needlepoint it on a pillow for my office
@clhubes I remember being able to do this. At the time, my younger sister and I had a friend who was paralyzed from the waist down. We'd drag him to the top in an old blanket so we could float down together.
@wolfnchiclothng I loved the Amsterdam. They had a little corner with a ton of those lamps, it had a bit of a funhouse feel with a tiny hallway to the back patio. Right off Expo. I think it closed in 2013 or 14
@wolfnchiclothng Did it have food? The Meridian Room was in that area too & used to have dinner before shows. Amsterdam was more of a art show/live music thing
I was completely obsessed with Great Illustrated Classics from 7 to 10. I remember searching out the full books and being amazed--this was how I read Little Women, Black Beauty and all the Jules Verne I could find.
Does anyone remember those super cheaply-printed abridged illustrated classic books from like, the 90s? that had a black and white illustration on every other page? Are they still for sale anywhere?
no one remembers the weird thing you said at a party, they’re thinking about how fall migration means there’ll be moment when the last Scissor-tailed Flycatcher leaves the state — not everything is about you bro
@mimismartypants oof. Thanks. I hadn't even thought about that when I bought our Pride flag (it's the semi updated one that also includes a black and brown stripe). Next one will include the trans colors for sure.
@dremilyportermd My parents have also deeded their bodies in a similar way, because my mom is a retired nurse and has seen first-hand how important that experience is. It's an absolute necessity for good medical care, even if it's a bit sad and unsettling to think about.
@wolfnchiclothng I got the same "replace the whole unit!" speech last summer and I went the compressor/Freon/monthly clean out and it's been working fine all year.
I would get a 2nd opinion if you can, too.
