Several Inner London boroughs, and boroughs in the north of the city, have higher levels of poverty.
Westminster, Camden, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Ealing, Wandsworth, Enfield, Haringey, Brent and Lewisham all have poverty rates higher than the London average.
Did you know that Millbank Estate at one stage was a Community of residents with roots in over 70 nations? Let’s celebrate diversity together and approach it as a learning opportunity.
We were happy to organise the event together with @FireLambeth & @millbankacademy. Sorry we could not join you, however, pleased the school visit was a huge success with the children! Just spoke to Firefighter Matt & he gave the event a definite👍. @LondonFire@MPSVincentSq
Millbank Estate has its own story about disregard for residents needs. But as a TMO we are empowered to change things ourselves if enough residents engage. We have now a new management board. We started to put right what went wrong over recent times, also with support from WCC.
We wonder why there are retailers like Sainsbury’s and WH Smith selling newspapers which regularly lie to the buyers. Isn’t this damaging for the retailer brands? They would not sell any other product with showing false statements on the packaging, would they.
Today’s Daily Express tells readers
“A majority of Brits now support pulling out of the European Convention on Human Rights”
This was a poll of just 2,000 people for The New Conservatives - a group of Tory MPs!
Good point about taking inspirations from others with no credit given. But is Stella still designing? The Stella McCartney brand is French LVMH owned for some years. Stella may not have much to do with it other than getting a royalty check for appearances and giving the name?
Arsenal's new away kit for the women's team (left) designed by Stella McCartney. Good job its not based on Bridget Riley's work from the 1960s (right). That would mean Riley getting a cut of the action and lots of lolly coming in with the Arsenal shirts retailing at £85 a pop!
The new Millbank TMO board is looking forward to run this also on Millbank Estate. Thanks to MCW and other local residents Millbank has been into recycling for over a decade running awareness workshops with Tate Estate Sustainability team. Thank you Bella and Paul!
Great morning at Churchill Gardens with @VeoliaUK and @CityWestminster at the Community Recycling event. Lots of residents bringing items for recycling and reuse #wegetthingsdone
The drive of current WCC for more affordable and social housing is noticeable and appreciated. But a deeply ingrained Tory coloured WCC staff culture established over decades and with longterm impact needs to be robustly resolved too. Work with the Housing Ombudsman on this.
Last summer, my son, then 9, swam in an English river and suffered 6 whole days of diarrhoea and vomiting. It was very worrying. His friend was almost hospitalised. And now we’re told the only way we can have more houses is by sacrificing any hope of cleaning up our waterways. It’s so depressing. Humanity can surely be better than this.
Over the past 30 years Millbank residents have been at countless such discussions. But the situation got continuously worse! How many housing ministers did we have? It’s a shocking number of failings.
Great to discuss housing and the election with @lewis_goodall@campbellclaret and @IsabelHardman at NationalHousingSummit today - going to be a critical dividing line in the electorate and a critical agenda for the next government
We just looked at a 40 years old local newspaper with an article complaining about SW1 Housing standards. 4 decades later with Conservatives in charge and nothing has changed, a lot has actually become worse. Who in their right mind would still vote Tory?
Brilliant day campaigning on Churchill Gardens in the sunshine with @rushanaraali@TeamPimlico@unmeshdesai and team @bgblabour 🌹Thank you!
Great response from residents who want a Labour MP and Labour Government for a brighter and fairer future ☀️
@CityWestminster@GillianVSquare This is a given. Many empty shops could serve as discounted start up locations as renting space is one of the big costs hitting startups. They could then also bring back life to some of the slowest dying shop parades.
Lovely opening of a new exhibition at #TheCavePimlico celebrating local history and personal memories of some of the most engaged locally active residents. Curated by #ChelseaUAL alumni #EmmaWilson
The chaos over school safety has failed children. This government is a shambles.
It is propped up by its MPs who blocked the release of school safety reports.
@justspace7 @walletzerosan @myfanwy_t@save_nour My takeaway was that trying to make the existing system work better, for us, isn't enough - we need to change the whole of the current system.
@JANUSZCZAK Supported by Tate staff like Bella Sereno and Estate team we provide for over 10 years free creative environmental awareness creating workshops at Tate Britain. This year we have started a new neighbourhood stakeholder group exploring a regenerative Millbank Conservation Area!
The new Millbank TMO board has started to set itself up with training & giving itself 2 months more time to prepare for its first AGM. WCC support is encouraging. However, rebuilding trust with residents let down for years will take time. It helps having a friendly local office
