@MichaelFulwiler Hi all, I am a clinical social work student with a special interest for grief and crisis response. I have been an intern in hospice and I am now switching to become an ER social worker. I love this meaningful work and thanks for all the support! :)

This is an interesting one too. In the US, police department requires mental health screening during pre-employment but Canada doesn’t. Also in the U.S, you can buy a gun without mental health screenings but cannot work at law enforcement! (Hypocrisy)
Let’s normalize having depression and not having to disclose this to potential employers. Do you care about my tonsillectomy as much as my history of taking Prozac? Yeah I thought so. #depression#MentalHealthStigma#mentalwellness@mmt98#CSSWMMT22

ADA does mandate for privacy and protects individuals rights however unless you need accommodations - you may have to self-disclose

This article speaks to the stigma one may face in case they choose to self-disclose to an employer.
@mmt98 They don’t consider you even if you are in full remission for any mental health diagnosis! Physicians are also at risk for their licensure - they must through a hefty process against board to prove they are able to do their jobs. All of this adds a barrier for folks to seek care

I had come across to this article - it has a harmful language and very stigmatizing! I also know that you are asked ‘have you ever been diagnosed with depression and received treatment’ during military pre-screening and it is an automatic disqualification
@aed2178@Nature @MaastrichtU @mmt98 Appreciate this article recommendation, Andrew! Lorde has an amazing saying and it made me think about it: “Survival isn’t an academic skill’’
@JamesFr15313138@mmt98 Appreciate this James! Something that I think about a lot is how segregated those special ed classrooms are. It is heartbreaking: we are coding in the sub-context that they are different therefore they should be seperated from the rest of class. #CSSWMMT22
