Allowing `require` to synchronously load ES modules is a huge win for ESM, allowing you to publish ESM-only code without breaking anyone.

This amazing work by @JoyeeCheung has been merged today and is available behind `--experimental-require-module`.

@meijer_s I wouldn't say npm is a better package manager. pnpm has by far shown it can scale better and is very easy to use. And pnpm has been steadily growing, with 5,280,790 downloads a week, it's a robust project trusted by many organizations (see pnpm's site).
