Epic opening to this front page story by the China Daily’s Moscow correspondent:
“Thousands of years ago, China envisaged a world where people would live in perfect harmony and be as dear to one another as family. Today, President Xi Jinping has given the world such a vision…”
Today we visited the Bishop Hill Service Reservoir, part of the Kowloon Waterworks gravitation scheme. Water flowed down the mountains into the Kowloon Reservoir, through filter beds, an 800 foot long tunnel and two miles of pipe to accumulate here before continuing to Yaumatei.
Now called @LuxcreteLtd , the British Luxfer Prism Syndicate manufactured this access port on the top of the reservoir, which was at some point concreted over. The company was founded in the 1880's by a British inventor who initially developed streetlight glazing.
Imagine my delight to find The Gorgeous Nothings, the edition of Dickinson's "envelop poems", put together by Werner and Bervin (the latter I met in HK), in @djbduncan's book! "The index is a wry gesture, imbued with the character of its compiler[.]"

Each time you talk about it and do press releases, there are more web results that link "national anthem" and "Glory to Hong Kong" -- y'all keep adding to the problem. 🫠
There are many ways to be the greatest economist of our time. I admire those who got Nobel prizes and know some more who deserve it, but it is @Mylovanov who really makes me proud that I am an economist. Want to be proud too? Just read the thread.
New Webb-site data: the number of unconvicted people on remand (innocent until proven guilty) in HK jails at 30-Sep has reached a record this century of 2,751, or 35.41% of the jail population. https://t.co/Sb6SIyAw2Y
But I will also say unequivocally that facile China-bashing, demonizing and arguing that we should have nothing to do with China or Chinese (even the 90 million Party members) is stupid, dangerous, self-defeating and often racist. Academics working on China broadly agree with me.
I dont know Elon Musk and, tbh, I could care less who owns twitter. But I will say that if this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary AF. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.
From the #HK 2022 Policy Address, p18: it's hard to believe a commitment to Open Data when you maintain a paywall and requirement to disclose searcher's identity on two of the most important data sources: the Companies Registry and Land Registry, and obfuscate HKIDs in results.
Sad to see lots of snobby tweets about local radio. These presenters are some of the best in the business and have a closer and better understanding of their listeners' lives than any network presenter. And these interviews are often the toughest for politicians.
