Aloha, #CHI2024! While I'm unable to attend it in person due to visa issue, my research group (#APEX) at #HKUST(Guangzhou) will be presenting many papers, including three with honorable mention awards. These papers cover topics of #a11y#aging#AR#VR#haptics#LLMs#UX.
Congratulations to my PhD student Emily Kuang @EmilyKuang8, whom I co-supervise with Kristen @kristenshino at RIT, for receiving Google PhD fellowship 2023! Emily investigates how best to design human-AI collaboration for user experience (UX) evaluation in today’s AI landscape.
Interactive visualizations are often designed and evaluated without involving older adults. How can we make interactive visualizations more accessible to older adults? We took a first step to explore this problem. Check out our recent IJHCI paper: https://t.co/b9Etd4uE3w
Human-AI collaboration tends to be asynchronous. However, productive human-human collaboration is often synchronous. We investigated how Synchronization and Explanations might affect human-AI collaboration in our #CSCW2022 paper: https://t.co/8JPeCaddmu. @QVeraLiao@jeffjianzhao
Thank Tiago Guerreiro @tjvguerreiro for writing a technical perspective for our paper on creating eyelid gestures for people with motor impairments! Check this wonderful writing here: https://t.co/QgVOXtVhD7 and our original work here: https://t.co/2B2O4ECCCz
Was invited to write a technical perspective for @CACMmag as a prologue to the paper "Eyelid gestures for people with motor impairments" by @mingming_fan, @Franklin_M_Li and Zhen Li

ChartSeer is a system that uses machine intelligence to enable analysts to visually monitor the current state of an exploratory data analysis and effectively identify future activities to perform. https://t.co/ADcSuW7BuX https://t.co/JQ3V1YQRJp @mia_mifeng@mingming_fan
Banking has become increasingly digitized. How do older adults bank in light of emerging digital payment trends? My PhD student Xiaofu Jin @suffvier is presenting our research at @acmdis2021. Check out the presentation: https://t.co/ZSoJJ2wDxl. Paper: https://t.co/GkdR4eNFff.
Ditto. There is only slightly over a month's time between the 2nd round notification and the conference time. It would be difficult for many people around the world to apply for US visa and book affordable air tickets in such a short time. @clifflampe, @ayman, #chi2022#CHI2021
R&R is great but creates potential huge logistic issues. As the results come out late, many authors who need visas won't have enough time to apply for them and book the travel! Not everyone in the world can travel that "freely" I wonder how #CHI2022 will plan for this. #CHI2021
Excited to share the preprint of our #CHI2021 paper “I Choose Assistive Devices That Save My Face” A Study on Perceptions of Accessibility and Assistive Technology Use Conducted in China.

@NElmqvist Interesting to learn that the charts that may "fool" people's eyes have some common distinctive features, so I feel hopeful that we could teach ourselves out of these visual traps :)
