On the implication of the attempt to appropriate the legacy of "Armenia" by the tiny ethnic group of Hyes (modern day "Armenians").
The most prominent and probably the oldest "legitimate" claim Hyes make to the name "Armenia" is probably the Behistun inscriptions, produced in apprx. 500 BCE during the reign of Derya I (Darius I) of Achaemenic Empire, where the word "Armina" is used as a label for a territory. For a territory! Not people; not a nation; not a kingdom; let alone a homogenous ethnicity. It is a geographical designation, not an ethnic one.
Surprisingly, there is no mention of "Armenians" as homogenous ethnic group in any verifiable historical manuscript originals or copies of which have survived, until probably Ottomans and Safavids, and even that is scarce.
But, lets entertain the idea. Lets assume the land referred to as "Armina", "Armenia" and "Hurminuya" was populated exclusively, or mostly by the ancestors of modern day Armenians.
So, where is this historical "Armenia", and how big is it? Well, it depends who you ask. Let's ask George Bournoutian, one the most prominent Armenian historians. Here is a few of his maps, from the largest to the smallest by area covered:
1) The Armenian Empire of 80 BCE: apprx. 678'000 sq. km.
2) The Arsacid Armenia of 150 CE: apprx. 291'000 sq. km.
3) The Zakarid Armenia of 1200 CE: apprx. 85'000 sq. km.
Of these three maps the geographical label of "Armenian Highlands" overlaps the last one, the most.
A quick look at the population density of the Achaemenid, Umayyad, Safavid, & Seljuk empires that rules the geography of "Armenia" gives following figures:
Achaemenid / 500 BCE - 3.09 persons per sq. km.
Umayyad / 750 CE - 2.25
Seljuks / 1100 CE - 3.08
Safavids / 1600 CE - 3.45
Now, lets look at modern day population density of area surrounding "Armenia":
Iran: 53.66
Azerbaijan: 118.20
Georgia: 53.49
Eastern Anatolia/Turkey: 40.00
A quick extrapolation reveals that the population of these area grew at an average, exponential rate of:
0.12%/year since Achaemenids
0.26%/year since Umayyads
0.32%/year since Seljuks
0.68%/year since Safavids
Now, lets take the area covered by two of the smaller (Greater & Zakarid) Armenia-s, and see how many Armenians there should be today, if the are was populated by a homogenous ethnic group that can lay claim to the legacy of the area, exclusively.
For Greater Armenia (150 CE), I'll use average population density of Achaemenids and Umayyads, so 2.67 persons/sq. km.
For Zakarid Armenia (1200 CE), I will use average population density of Seljuks and Safavids, so 3.26 persons/ sq. km.
Therefore, the population of Greater Armenia (294k sq. km.) should have been 777'000 people in 150 CE. And the population of Zakarid Armenia (85k sq. km.) should have been 278'000 people in 1200 CE.
Now, lets take those base populations, and "grow" them at the growth rate of the prevailing people living around them:
- area covered by Greater Armenia should have 99 million Armenians.
- area covered by Zakarid Armenia should have 74 million Armenians.
How many Armenians are around these days?
Armenian Republic - max. 3 million
Armenians in diaspore - max. 6 million
So, 9 million in total. Which means those who call themselves Armenians today, comprised anywhere from 9% to 14% of the population of the areas they lay historical, cultural and political claim to.
What happened to the remaining 86% to 91% of the people that lived in those "Armenia-s"?
Did they disappear?
Where are most of the Armenians?
No they didn't disappear! They are still there; but they dont call themselves Armenians; because it was never a label for an ethnic group. Hye was! Armenian never was!
So next time, a Hye lays a complete and exclusive claim to every city, stone, monument, achievements, victory concerning the the historical areas of Armenia, ask them, where are the 60 million Armenians that did all this?
Sir, the motivation or the context for enriching uranium beyond 20% is irrelevant, Non Proliferation Treate prohibits it. Iran loses all of the weight behind their argument for right to enrich for peaceful purposes the moment they go beyond 20%. Unless Iran is dealing with an imminent threat of destruction, the act of going beyond 20% makes them a rogue state.
@sohailanalysis@FaytuksNetwork You need 6% enriched uranium for power generation; 20% enriched for research purpuses. Iran highest confirmed enrichment level is 60%. Peaceful?
@FaytuksNetwork@Caucasuswar Borderline treason. If Americans (especially repiblicans) dont vote to politically neuter this orange clown in congress this fall, the world is well on its path to distopia.
Statistically, they cant be. There wd be 10 times as many "Armenians" today if the historical land referred to as "Armenia" was populated exclisively by a homogeneous ethnic group. Ancient Armenia was populated my mich diverse ethnic groups. Its just that one small (<10%) portion those ethnic groups took the name and claims the whole area.

Thats exactly what I am thinking. Unless they setup a UN administered control similar to what KSA did for cargoes going to Yemen, where vessel would need to go to Djibouti for "vetting" prior to calling Aden-Houdeidah, the selective blokade of Iranian cargoes is going to be difficult to enforce completely. At the same time, if Iranians go as far as lingering their laden tankers in UAE/KSA shores to pretend to be loading there, the UAE/KSA port admins can just report them to US forces.
IRGC will attempt to damage Saudi pipeline to Red Sea. Houthies will prolly activate as well to create trouble in Bab al Mandab. However, Iran weathering low oil prices when they had the administrative control of their country, is not the same as Iran having no oil money while having its administrative control of the country in disarray. The world has to tolerate temporary higher oil prices. Iranian civilian protests will do the rest.
As damaging as Trump has been to America's global standing, his recent TACO with Iran will prove a win in the long-run. Iranian civilians need quiet 3-4 months to get protests going to topple the regime. And this time the regime weakened by the US wont be able to stand against them.
@disclosetv@Caucasuswar God damn, this guys is so bad...10 boats of 100kt are 500 million in total. US spends 4 times as much in day operating against Iran. Why is he so desperate to be liked by other. Just do your thing man. Stop being TACO!

GCC (KSA, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain) countries have a total local only population of 35 million. If particularly the Saudis work out their differences with the Emiratees, the money they have utilized as a multiplier leverage would make them collectively as powerful as Iran. If there is a need for troops on Iranian soil, as a response to IRGC apression on GCC, it needs to be the GCC forces, while the US and Israel will give all the air support they need. All it wd take is 1-2 month blockade of southern Iranian ports, and the regime will fall. Not an occupation, but a expeditionary force to disable the terrorist IRGC forces.
@cavidaga Cavid, there is no Azeri Light crude loading ex Ceyhan anymore; its called BTC crude since the quality is not Azeri Light, anymore. "Clean" Azeri Light only loads from Supsa, when it does; has stopped a while ago.
