Canada is preparing for a possible increase in asylum claims after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6 to 3 that the Trump administration can end Temporary Protected Status for more than 350,000 Haitians living in the United States. The decision could leave many at risk of deportation.

Because of the Safe Third Country Agreement, many migrants may attempt to enter Canada between official border crossings to file asylum claims, rather than presenting themselves at a port of entry where they could be turned back. Immigration advocates say some people have already begun making the journey, while Canadian officials are monitoring the situation.
