Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass on July 4th on the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa, calling for a response to migration rooted in human dignity rather than fear or indifference. Reflecting on the Good Samaritan, he said migrants lost at sea are “victims both of decisions that were made and of decisions that were not made.” He urged Europe to move beyond emergency responses and adopt long-term policies that protect, support, and integrate migrants.
Some moments from Pope Leo XIV's visit to Lampedusa this morning. He visited the cemetery of the island, stopping at the tombs of the migrants - including children - who lost their life trying to reach European shores. He spent some time in prayer and placed a wreath of flowers. /1
I’m back in Rome for a couple of days of meetings with the Cardinals! One of the first places I come to is the tomb of Pope Francis at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, one of my favorite churches in Rome. @thegnewsroom
This month’s prayer intention is that sports may be an instrument of peace, encounter, and dialogue among cultures and nations. May sports promote values such as respect, solidarity, and personal growth. Take a moment. Let us #PrayTogether, at https://t.co/S3TtsnB6oT
