Sir Andy Haines arguing that militarism is a threat to Planetary Health at #PHAM2025.
It causes emissions & pollution, diverts attention & investments from tackling the planetary crisis, and instead of providing security it endangers our global security and increases deaths.
Field data and analysis of crossing activity confirm that Israel continues to limit the amount and range of goods entering #Gaza, with total supplies meeting, at best, only around 37% of the Strip’s actual needs

Dock and port workers from 17 countries will disrupt and block exports to Israel on Friday, with workers joining from countries including Italy, Mexico, Turkey, the US, Morocco and India.
Representatives from more than 100 ports will participate in the international day of action on 30 October, calling for an end to Israel’s genocide against Palestinians and “US-Israeli wars of aggression”.
The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) announced on X that workers will take action by “peacefully disrupting and blocking the transfer of military, energy and other dual-use supplies to Israel, including by refusing to handle such supplies”.
Workers will also pressure governments to impose a full military embargo on Israel and end “trade, economic and academic relations serving its illegal occupation and apartheid”.
Explaining the day of action, the BNC said that Israel’s “criminal wars” are “exacerbating the cost of living and economic crises worldwide”.
“Military budgets are swelling in the colonial West, while families and workers struggle with the cost of health, housing, transportation, and education. Our struggles are interlinked,” it stated.
A further 17 Palestinian trade unions and federations have endorsed the action, stating: “Our struggle for justice in Palestine is inseparable from the global struggle against systemic racism, militarisation, exploitation, climate devastation and all forms of oppression.”
The day of action comes a year after dockworkers in Italy blocked the ports of Genoa and Livorno, with unions closing schools and stopping transportation as part of an Italy-wide general strike in response to Israel preventing the Global Sumud Flotilla from reaching Gaza in 2025.
The flotilla was the largest ever naval mission to attempt to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza, with around 20 vessels carrying delegates from at least 44 countries.
The flotilla was subject to drone attacks before being illegally intercepted by Israel in international waters. Those on board were detained and have accused Israeli forces of subjecting them to human rights abuses including assault, degrading treatment, and the withholding of medical care.

„Wahlberichterstattung“ die es nicht schafft zu erwähnen, dass weit über 5 Millionen Palästinenser in Westbank, Ost-Jerusalem u Gaza unter isr Kontrolle nicht abstimmen dürfen wer sie regiert – während Siedler dafür nicht mal nach 48-Israel fahren müssen. Atemberaubend unseriös.

In Gaza, rescuing them is a promise we must keep every day: food, treatment, and a safe place to sleep.🐾
This Friday, my dear friends, please help us keep that promise. The animals at Salam Shelter depend on us, and we depend on your kindness.
Please donate what you can, or share so someone else can help. May the mercy you show them return to you.🤲❤️

For Africa, climate change is not about the future. It's about now. Our crops failing, our lakes shrinking, our people displaced — while boardrooms thousands of miles away count record profits. We don't have a climate problem. We have a justice problem. #ClimateJustice
Heat killed a record 50,000 people in European cities this summer, new research suggests, with scientists blaming climate breakdown for two in every three of the deaths. https://t.co/VZL7qysuBs
MSF says that Israel is "progressively asphyxiating" Gaza. The conditions for people's survival are being "systematically destroyed" through sustained violence, "deliberate" blockade of essential supplies and the destruction of healthcare & infrastructure. https://t.co/O8obMKEGEZ

New study: most climate models underestimate the decline of the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC. The AMOC is on course to slow by more than 50% by the end of the century.
Very likely the AMOC will then be past the tipping point for full shutdown. 😨

The world is not a playground for impunity.
Not South Asia. Not Southeast Asia. Not anywhere.
Those who face their crimes, repent and work to stop the genocide may one day find compassion. Until then, the world is not their escape.
