😣🇺🇾 Marcelo Bielsa looking down during FIFA's official World Cup photoshoot.
The Uruguay manager has been one of the tournament's fiercest critics, speaking out against what he sees as the growing commercialisation surrounding the World Cup. 🌎💭
As Raul Jimenez wheeled away, sprinting to the corner and into his wildest dreams, the tears appeared in his eyes. A World Cup goal always means something. A World Cup goal in front of 80,000-odd of your compatriots is even more special.
For Jimenez, though, there were added layers here, resonances that go beyond this tournament, these fans. This was the culmination of an extraordinary personal journey, a comeback story told twice.
Nearly six years ago, Jimenez fractured his skull playing for Premier League side Wolves. The injury cut him down in the prime of his career, but that was only the half of it: it could have been the end of his life. “It is a miracle to be here with you,” he said during his slow, painful recovery.
He may no longer be the best player on this team but he is its beating heart. He represents Mexican grit and determination. Here, after treading a path that would have made plenty of people give up, he got the reward for his perseverance.

Scott Parker signed for West Ham on 6th June 2007 for £7million. They talk of certain players you would want in the 'trenches' and Parker- signing on the Anniversary of D Day- is certainly one of those. Three times Hammer of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year as a Hammer ⚒️🏴
@almanydnfutbol Pek değeri olmayan bir istatistik. 5 maçta oluşmuş bir ortalamadan bahsediyoruz. Steffen Baumgart 51, Urs Fischer 224 maçta bu puan ortalamasına sahip oldu.
