The concern raised by @MehboobaMufti deserves immediate attention! That this kind of program is being allowed in Gurez in Kashmir, when a similar programme by this organisation was cancelled by police in Goa, due to public outrage over its obscene promotional details, is outrageous!
Kashmir is the land of sufis and saints. Here spirituality is experienced, not marketed at a cost! Besides, tourism promotion cannot become an excuse to undermine our religious, cultural and social ethos and ignoring our values and sensibilities
The concerned authorities @CM_JnK, @omarabdullah should immediately take note and stop this exploitation!
The policy to silence the pulpit of Jama Masjid and punish me from voicing people’s concerns and standing up in defence of their rights and for justice, continues unabated. I am again put under house arrest today on a Friday, when I was also to preside over a function “Majlis-e-Rahmatal lil Aalameen ﷺ “in connection with the blessed month of Rabi Ul Alwal at Jama Masjid Srinagar.
Besides paying tributes to the holy prophet(PBUH), by leading scholars, the function would also mark two special scholarly achievements: the release of Gulzar Ahmad Parray’s word-for-word Kashmiri translation of the Holy Qur’an, and the felicitation of young scholar Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi for memorising the complete Sahih al-Bukhari.
The restrictions to prevent me, especially on Friday’s to address the faithful at Jama Masjid, and do my duty as Mirwaiz, though personally very painful will not deter me from fulfilling my responsibilities and from raising people’s voice for their rights.
Meanwhile Mohammad Yasin Malik’s affidavit reported in media, particularly his decision not to contest the case further and seek extreme penalty, while maintaining his innocence is very concerning. It calls for serious reflection on commitments made to him and reinforces the need for due process, fairness and a humane approach.
On the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, we remember with deep sorrow those who lost their lives and stand in solidarity with their families, who continue to bear the pain of this tragedy, and unfortunately always will. These dates in our calendar every year reopen our wounds to similar tragedies witnessed by us in the last three decades at Gaw Kadal, Zakoora, Hawal, Sopore, Wandhama, Chittisinghpura, to name a few. Thousands of precious human lives lost to the conflict.
Yet the faith and aspiration of the people of Jammu Kashmir in non violence and lasting peace with dignity through talks, remains unwavering. We hope and pray that such gruesome events are forever a thing of the past. Ameen
On the last Friday of holy Ramzan, when tens of thousands gather from towns and villages for prayers and supplication at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, its gates have once again been locked from all sides.
For the 7th consecutive year, the rulers have denied permission to Muslims to pray here.
As Israel has forcibly shut the gates of Masjid al-Aqsa during Ramzan, similar painful reality is witnessed here.
Our hearts bleed.Shame on those who lock the houses of Allah against the faithful.
For some time now, I was being pressed by the authorities to make changes to my X (formerly Twitter) handle as Hurriyat chairman, as all constituents of Hurriyat Conference, including the Awami Action Committee that I head have been banned under the UAPA, making Hurriyat a banned organisation, failing which they will take down my handle.
At a time when public space and avenues of communication stand severely restricted, this platform remains among the very few means available to me to reach out to my people and share my views on our issues with them, and the outside world. Under such circumstances, it is a Hobson’s choice I was left to make.
It pains me beyond words that the authorities compelled the family of Prof. Sb to conclude his janazah hurriedly. I have been locked inside my home, and being denied the right to walk with him in his final journey. My association with him spanned 35 years of friendship and guidance. So many others, too, longed to pay their last respects. To be deprived of even the solace of participating in his janazah and bid him a final goodbye is an unbearable cruelty.
Banning books by scholars and reputed historians will not erase historical facts and the repertoire of lived memories of people of Kashmir. It only exposes the insecurities and limited understanding of those behind such authoritarian actions, and the contradiction in proudly hosting the ongoing Book Festival to showcase its literary commitment!
Khurram's imprisonment for his HR work in Kashmir echoes as the silence grows heavier in the region.
What does this silence mean for Kashmir?
For Kashmir’s political prisoners still trapped in a machinery of state punishment.
To remember them is to refuse silence as our story.
Another Friday, another house arrest and the authorities Jama Masjid phobia continues. Meanwhile as things are fast regressing for Muslims in this country, latest being the highly marginalising Wakf Bill, it doesn’t seem far fetched that soon permissions may be sought and permits issued after verification, for Muslims to enter their mosques or be buried in their graveyards.
As one watches the ruling party defend the indefensible Waqf Amendment bill in parliament,it is very unfortunate and disturbing that not even one of the serious concerns and reservations raised by the Muslim organisations including the MMU which I lead before the JPC in New Delhi, was addressed by them. Today crores of Muslims in India like mute spectators are haplessly watching their rights and institutions being blatantly undermined and feel greatly let down.
After Shab-e-Qadr, Jama Masjid Srinagar continues to remain closed to people and I under house detention, even today on Juma-Tul-Vida, when lakhs of people eagerly await the whole year to offer congregational prayers on this blessed Friday for great reward and blessing from Allah. Want to ask the authorities why is this most important centre of Kashmir’s religious identity and affinity repeatedly targeted and peoples fundamental right to religious practice curbed, when tall claims of normalcy are trumpeted every day? Those ruling in peoples name cannot absolve themselves from standing up to address this gross injustice towards Muslims of the valley and the repeated closure of #JamaMasjid.
Allahumma munzilal kitabi, warii'al-hisaabi, ihzimil-ahzaaba. Allahumma ihzimhum wa zalzilhum
O Allah! Revealer of the book, Swift to account, defeat the groups (of those who reject faith). O Allah! defeat them and shake them
[Muslim; 3:1362]
May All occupations end
Aameen
Strongly condemn the ban on Awami Action Committee and declaring it an “Unlawful Association.” Formed by shaheed e Millat at the peak of holy relic (moi muqadas) agitation in 1964, it has unwaveringly stood by the people of J&K advocating their aspirations and rights through completely non violent and democratic methods and calling for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict through dialogue and deliberation, for which it’s members suffered jails and incarceration and even martyrdom. This move seems part of the continuation of the policy of intimidation and disempowerment that is being followed viz a viz J&K since August 2019. The voice of truth may be suppressed through force but will not be silenced.
Collective Responsibility to Uphold Our Religious and Cultural Ethos” @MirwaizKashmir on Gulmarg Episode
Urges tourism industry players to act responsibly, Commercial Gains Must Not Come at the Cost of Faith and Culture
Srinagar, March 11, 2025: Addressing the gathering at the Astan Aliya Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) in Khanyar and paying tributes to umm Ul nomineen Hazrat khadija on her youm e Visal, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq emphasised upon shifting the focus on self in the month of Ramzan and subsequent Character building , in the light of what Quran and Sunnah teaches us in terms of the values , morals and ethics of a Muslim .
He reminded the audience that every individual is a part of the larger society, and when each person strengthens their own values and morals the entire society becomes strong and resilient and negative influences of corruption, malpractices , greed , addiction, alcoholism and such , have little impact on it .
Highlighting the need for collective responsibility, he said that while personal reform is the first step, the second step is to work towards building a society that is free from these harmful influences or, at the very least, resistant to them.
Referring to the disturbing Gulmarg episode, Mirwaiz said that while authorities cannot be absolved of their responsibility, it is also a reality that those who facilitated and organised the event belong to our society itself, and are answerable for their actions. These people should understand that their pursuit of profit at the cost of the region’s religious and cultural ethos sets a dangerous precedent and undermines this precious heritage which is the guiding force that keeps people on the right path.We do not need to do all this for “prosperity “ and in the name of “modernity “. Allah has blessed Kashmir with natural beauty and exquisite crafts, which are sufficient to sustain its people with dignity.
Mirwaiz urged upon the hoteliers and tourism stakeholders to act responsibly and avoid such misadventures that harm the valley’s heritage for financial gains .
He concluded by appealing to people to stay rooted in their faith and values, ensuring that society remains strong and principled.

The termination of three more state employees in such authoritarian manner is highly condemnable. Do the rulers want to remove all Kashmiri’s slowly and steadily from government services and render them jobless? It is the duty of the elected representatives to take up this issue urgently with the concerned as they have committed in their manifesto, and stop this harassment.
Also cracking down on Islamic literature and seizing them from bookstores while condemnable is ridiculous. Policing thought by seizing books is absurd to say the least, in the time of access to all information on virtual highways.
