Same here. Ecclesiastes is one of the most honest books in the Bible. It doesn’t pretend life is simple, it wrestles with meaning, disappointment, success, and mortality, yet still points us back to fearing God and living wisely. It’s painfully real, and that’s what makes it so beautiful.
I love reading David’s crash-outs in the Psalms. 😭 One minute he’s praising God, the next he’s pouring out his frustration about evil, injustice, and why the wicked seem to prosper. It’s comforting to know that even a man after God’s own heart brought his hardest questions to God.
Not exaggerating when I say the future depends on this catching on en masse. Kids, adults. Book clubs, silent reading groups. For the past twenty-five years tech has corroded our attention, intelligence and basic pleasure in living, and books are the key to winning them back.
Whenever I catch myself not reading things completely, I remember anti-intellectualism is on the rise, literacy is in decline, and I don’t want to be a VICTIM!
