Not only were the major contributors to inflation non-discretionary, but they were mostly unaffected by demand or interest rates rises. But yeah, go ahead raise rates again because you gotta look tough, I guess?

I've been reporting on renewable energy for a decade. And no matter how much I write, there’s a question I get asked again & again:
Why do we need big solar & wind farms when we can put solar on rooftops & parking lots instead?
It's a great question. Let's do a thread... 🧵1/n

Just in case anyone reading this is thinking about debating a crackpot on a famous podcast. Here are some important tips for how to debate from a former debater and coach.
Of all the pain and hardship caused by the global fossil fuel price crisis, countries like Norway have been big, *big* winners.
Norway earned more from selling climate-disaster-causing energy products in 2021+2022 than it did between 2015-2020.

So if we assume H2 leaks as much as CH4 (could argue up or down - it’s hard to handle but also most likely to be handled in high-safety industrial contexts), then H2 has leakage emissions of 0.1tCO2e per GJ leaked vs 0.54 for CH4. Small! But adds to importance of avoiding leaks.

@dylanjmcconnell@GriffithSaul Love the visual! Curious whether the gains from efficiency itself are really as small as this suggests? Any reason we can't have both & cut final energy demand even further? Found this from IRENA which puts EE, RE, and electrification on the same footing economy-wide...
Looking for a slide that clearly shows the inherent energy efficiency gains from electrification - any suggestions #energytwitter? Maybe @GriffithSaul?
@dylanjmcconnell@GriffithSaul Love this Sankey from the bottom of my heart, but I'm on the hunt for something visual that will be easy for non-experts to grasp in one slide - tall order I know!
