In addition to increased overdose deaths, closure of these sites also means increased impacts on overstretched fire, ambulance and emergency departments, because rather than having their overdose treated at an SCS, people will overdose in community, resulting in 911 calls.

To give an idea of impacts, from March 2020-Jan 2024, Toronto Public Health's SCS reversed 2,306 overdoses & South Riverdale CHC’s SCS reversed 1,001 overdoses. Put simply, the closure of 10 SCS across Ontario means that fatal overdose rates will increase.

If you’re against safer supply and supervised consumption, you probably want to close the safe supply wine dispensary and the supervised alcohol consumption site also pictured in the video. There are children a few blocks away!!!!

Smoking crack in a TTC bus shelter.

Just got this video from a #Toronto dad. While he was trying to soothe his newborn, he was horrified to see a man smoking a crack pipe from his window. A few blocks away is a daycare.

Just another day in @OliviaChow and @Ausmalik’s Toronto.

Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars to brand free crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia with the #CityofTO logo, the investments should be in the other pillars of a drug strategy (treatment, prevention, enforcement).

Harm reduction without treatment will not break the cycle of addiction.

This person appears to be smoking cannabis, a substance we’ve chosen to regulate. Why? Because it was safer for people to use a quality controlled product, free of contaminants and not support an illegal market. Weird, eh?
