I’m coming to terms with the reality that there are always going to be periods in my life when, despite all my achievements, there is going to be an inexplicable void that I’m going to have to learn to sit with. I don’t think we were destined to experience replete fulfilment.
I’m a retired brain surgeon and I wanna tell you why you feel like life is passing by. I just need one minute to explain this to you so hang in there.
Repetitive daily routines stop the brain from recording clear detailed memories. When every day looks the same, your brain does not track time the same as a clock does. It tracks change. If nothing new happens then days, months, and years start to blur together.
This is know as Time compression. When life lacks variety, your brain compresses past days together, making it feel like time is sped up.
To stop feeling like life is passing you by, add new experiences to your life. Break routine habits, like changing your daily home routine, taking a different route to work, or trying a new hobby.
Schedule small trips or plan new adventures so your days do not blend together.
Practice mindfulness by staying fully focused on what you are doing right now and not trying to race off to the next task.
Keep a journal and write down happy memories or memorable parts of the day before you go to sleep.
Take deep, calm breaths when you feel anxious or rushed to return your focus to the moment.
You can and you will retrain your brain to not feel like life is passing you by by following these few simple measures.
I sit quietly and realize that God has been taking care of me this whole time, maybe not in luxurious ways, maybe not with an easy life. But through protection, provison, good health, surviving hard days and always having just enough to keep going.
i think if there is one thing you must insist on being in this life, it is sincere. even at your expense. even at your own detriment. you just have to be sincere. there is no other way.
Don't let a 10-minute problem consume a 24-hour day. The email was uncomfortable. The train was late. The conversation went poorly. Feel it, deal with it, then allow the rest of your life to remain intact.
Chemu and I were in high school together. She was fun, helpful and caring always willing to look out for someone.
We finished and lost touch for a bit, partially because I was determined to leave home and everything high school behind.
You need boredom. A lot of it. Start by going on walks without music. No stimulation. No distractions of any kind. If you learn to sit with your own thoughts, for long enough, in time they will start serving you. You'll start having ideas once again. You'll start developing an extreme sense of clarity that will shift you into the next stage of your life. All by being bored, which is pretty insane.
