I tried individual writing conferences & loved providing feedback during the process of writing. I saw students immediately use the feedback to improve their writing. It is a great way to teach students how to edit and draft their own writing. @IEwellEldridge #EDUC344C @UCRGSOE

@Catlin_Tucker’s model of utilizing technology and videos to create individual time to conference with students and set goals is a great idea. It allows the teacher to differentiate for different students and continue to build relationships with students.

Equally important is building in metacognitive practices so that students can be active agents in learning and allowing students to redo assignments after they are graded. The traditional focus needs to shift from points/ grades to learning. @IEwellEldridge @UCRGSOE #EDUC344C

After reading Balanced with Blended Learning by @Catlin_Tucker I feel more prepared for grading. I learned about making grades reflect learning rather than participation/compliance. This is done by focusing grading the process of learning and aligning grades to specific skills.

Students come to school with a lifetime of experiences and many different abilities. It is our job as teachers to see the value that each student adds to the classroom. After doing so and building relationships we can begin to teach acceptance, compassion, and understanding.

The framework outlines differentiation so that students have an equitable learning environment, but what currently seems to take place is an equal learning environment causing some student to succeed and other to fail @CADeptEd #CAMathFramework @IEwellEldridge @UCRGSOE #EDUC344C

The CA #elaeldframework states that effective interventions begin at that the first sign of difficulty; however it seems that at schools students need to struggle for a long enough time and have low grades to even qualify for support and interventions.

I wonder the toll this must take on the student and their motivation to succeed. I also wonder why this must occur and if it happens everywhere? Why is the system set up so that my students must fail before receiving interventions and accommodations that will help them succeed?
