Looking for short stories/extracts for our KS3 Myths and Legends scheme - focusing on character journeys. It’s due a revamp so any recommendations would be great! @Team_English1
@Team_English1 looking for model Sign of Four answers if anyone can help. Taught it for years but I’m looking for a variety of resources and online is looking very slim for the text!
@hkateaching 5/8 - I’ve had a very similar response on this extract. The beginning I would give L2 as there isn’t specific enough effect and then award L3 for ‘as his confidence shatters…’. The end drops off as again it isn’t specific enough
@Team_English1 can anyone offer any insight as to the indicative content on LP1 mark schemes? I feel that the standard for ‘clear’ is very different to what is seen in annotated scripts (the indicative content being lower) and isn’t consistent across examples. 1/2
Really want to push my top set 11s with language paper 1 question 5. Vast majority of the class are sitting at a 7 or above on their most recent - any tips to keep stretching them? Structure/technical accuracy would be useful! @Team_English1
@_krogg I used to have a girl who did this no matter how much she planned. I got her to start doing a box at the side with a ‘x’ rather than scribbling it out so easy to read. Would mark both - the re-write is usually the same. Made her realise she was wasting time and to be confident
@PastoralThings I go as often as I possibly can. They love it, have come to expect it and can become quite ‘cross’ if I miss a good game! They won a big final last year (and are hoping for a second year running) and I’ll always be so pleased I was there for it
@MissSFEnglish I also go down the route of ‘alternative’ doesn’t mean ‘opposite’ but multiple interpretations. I’ve had a student before about the knocking in Macbeth as a physical interruption to the act, an instant demonstration of guilt but also Macbeth’s own morality trying to break through
Any recommendations of novels for year 10 students? Have an amazing 🤩 class, incredibly bright and they do read outside of school but always want more options! I’ve given loads but would love some other opinions! @Team_English1
@FunkyPedagogy They are amazing! Taught them only twice a week last year but have a year group of them! Very young at heart, enthusiastic and want to tell you absolutely everything they do at every minute of the day! (Also very fidgety 😬)
@ellie_grout@CBasnett I second this! Has always worked really well for me. Other thing has been to hand their books out before they arrive, from memory. Then, any I’m left with, I can fill the gaps when they arrive
I have read ‘Shakespeare uses the metaphor ‘Juliet is the sun’. The noun ‘sun…’ many times marking scripts 🤦🏻♀️Where does the habit of identifying a word come from? Especially when they have already identified the metaphor? Really common ‘identification’ but nothing done with it
@GCSE_Macbeth Examining in this case - I’ve done additional but this is the first one with that box ticked. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard back from my team leader and no information in the packs but thank you anyway! I’ll try them again
