@susangbarber I am a rockstar teacher of 20 years, and I feel like I’m trying to coordinate a concert with one plug outlet! How is it supposed to all fit? Keep pushing forward 1 step at a time, 1 student at a time, 1 positive interaction at a time. Straighten that crown and go be a rockstar!
“Understand that some days will not work out the way you want them to, so it is okay to start again tomorrow...Sometimes walking away, taking a break, doing something else, and starting again tomorrow is the best thing to do.”

For today it's okay to be sad about what could have been. For tomorrow, we start planning how to make this work. Whether you agree or not, this is our reality, this is our CHILDREN'S reality. So let's be proactive rather than reactive. Let's find a way to make it work.
Hearing @BrianMendler talk about kids coming back after having everything taken from them and being angry really made me think and reflect. Thank You! ❤️
When late, when returning from an absence (or a couple)- I AM glad to see them! A kind, warm welcome keeps them coming back much more than a confrontation ever would.
What teaching really looks like...
“Aye Mr. Jones I can’t take off my hood cause they gonna pick on me”
“Who? On me they won’t”
-today’s work session included a quick taper fade to remove the insecurities and removing hoodies..

#ThoughtForTheDay Picture yourself sitting at the interview table answering this Q - “How would you respond to a student who regularly fails to bring materials to class?” Now picture yourself in the classroom after you’ve been hired. Do you still respond the same way? #Culturize

Lots of kids come to school with their invisible backpacks, weighted with struggles.
Stress, worry, fear, anxiety, trauma, lack of physical needs, loneliness, anger, sadness, & hopelessness can make them so heavy; too heavy for learning to happen.
Notice & love them instead.
