@ElizabethMenc18@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Collaboration is a big part of the teaching profession, teachers can always pop ideas off of one another. Letting students have a voice and make decisions can also happen. Promoting diversity is so important and ensuring a multicultural education.
@AllisonCheatwo1@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Starting your day with affirmations is an amazing idea! I will have to try this and incorporate it into my classroom. Feeling valued can truly help students in many ways and create that positive environment.
@cmitchell231@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Yes! Caring is a huge part of being a teacher and can make all the difference in a classroom and the environment. A teacher who truly cares about their students is what matters and these children need somebody who will show they care no matter what.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 A huge part of this is creating a classroom environment where we all really know each other and communicate. It is important that students know we are all the same yet different in many ways and that’s what is special about everyone. Promoting kindness and differences matters.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 I will create and safe and brave places by ensuring each and every one of my students feels welcome at all times and knows that their feelings matter. I want my students to feel comfortable sharing any thoughts and emotions they may have. Overall positive environment is my goal.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Empathy is a very important characteristic for all teachers to have. Empathy means to understand another person and their feelings. In the teaching profession we will have many children who are relying on us to be understanding of them and know that sometimes things happen.
@_mrslindeman @WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 Yes a deeper understanding of numbers is necessary in math! You bring up a great point about confidence, teaching students a deeper sense rather than memorization could definitely increase confidence in math and help them to not feel intimidated by the subject.
@cmitchell231@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler These are all issues in the math world that can put fear into students. Math should be about so much more. These issues could cause students to feel like a failure. Instead we need to promote multiple strategies, open mindedness, and make room for further discussions on numbers!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Math can be a subject that intimidates students therefore causing anxiety. Memorization, formulas, and tests are some things students could be expecting to see in math and with only one solution to every problem. This can scare students. It should be about much more than this!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Some ways I will encourage students to use numbers flexibly is by incorporating daily activities to increase math fluency in the beginning of our math time. Some examples are number talks, “which one doesn’t belong?”, and estimations. This will become routine in the classroom.
@JezminQ@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 Number talks to provide students with so many benefits! Having multiple strategies can be very helpful in the classroom. Open mindedness also has many benefits & is a good trait to begin teaching students early on!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Number talks are a great way to show math fluency! They promote that there are several different strategies to solving a single math problem. They are about reasoning and a deeper understanding of math not solely memorization. They could also start a discussion in the classroom.
I had a colleague check on me today. She said: “You ok? I don’t feel like your energy level is the same.” I told her I was just feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment.
We all feel overwhelmed from time to time, and we all need to be checked on.
We can all be that colleague.
