What an awesome way to #upcycle plastic bottles! This could be incorporated in conjunction with an #SAKGP, and really encourage students to grow their own food!
The ingenuity of repurposing plastics into the learning environment sends a clear #SDG12 message of reducing + reusing materials. To answer the Q: other ways to reuse bottles in the garden.

@Thomson_Teaches Hi Abby! It’s the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program! Schools have gardens where they grow fresh produce, which the students then use to create #yummy and #healthy meals in their kitchens!
I would incorporate ‘going solar’ into the school community! Check out #solarmyschool, they provide funding for schools to install solar panels. Their website also gives a run down of just what an amazing impact #solarpanels have on schools! #educ4750#UoNTeach
It’s important to remember that not all schools have the resources to put money into #sustainability projects but with a simple Google you can get tips for #sustainableliving on a budget. What tips will you use in the classroom? #sdg12#uonteach#educ4750 https://t.co/bdXxS6ZWEG
https://t.co/IQxSbyE41I… check out this @BehindTheNews video on #textilewaste. Did you know Australia is the 2nd biggest consumer of textiles world wide?! 🤯
What can we teach students from this video? #educ4750#UoNTeach
@JuliaBe64274003 These are both great ideas! I’d start off with thick needles and a piece of paper, making sure students have those skills before moving to actual fabric or sewing machines! It’s also crucial we teach safety around a sewing machine so that it can be a fun and safe activity
https://t.co/cgWqmbcYNh From books to doll dress ups, this article covers it all! To help students develop skills to repurpose their old clothing, let’s teach them how to use a sewing machine! #UoNTeach#educ4750
@JuliaBe64274003 Amazing! Have you seen this article? It’s all about how Indigenous community members are helping firefighters use #sustainable burning to help reduce the risk of bushfires! https://t.co/420hVfuYp6
https://t.co/SF1XaOodFI here’s a handy step by step on how to organise and run a buy, swap, sell stall. Although it’s aimed at households, this can easily be translated to a school settings giving students a foundation to start their #project#educ4750#UoNTeach
https://t.co/k12PKmthg1 here is a great step-by-step on how to make #beeswax wraps. Show this to students and watch them take charge! (adult supervision obviously required for the oven) #educ4750#UoNTeach
@aiden_dennis@Dawe4Peter Definitely! Not only that, but outdoor learning and gardening is rich in mathematics and literacy, helping develop these skills without kids noticing!
https://t.co/IQxSbyE41I… here’s an interesting take on recycling. Instead of recycling textiles, why not recycle something else (such as cassette tapes) into fashion? #educ4750#UoNTeach
https://t.co/IFChfqZ9AA… what an awesome initiative! With children growing 7 sizes in their first 3 years of life, clothing like this (which grows with the child) is a great way to combat #textilewaste#educ4750#UoNTeach
With over 1/3 of the food we buy in NSW ending up in landfill, school initiatives such as 'love food hate waste', is a great opportunity for schools to teach their students about responsible consumption and sustainability! Check it out: https://t.co/7JSlLIWLcL

@aiden_dennis Hi @aiden_dennis. I chose #SDG12 because I want to help students realise how wasteful our everyday lives are! I’m focusing specifically on textile waste (school uniforms and other clothing) and how easily students can combat this, through up cycling, donating to op-shops and more
Did you know 🧐 that food waste is one of the biggest contributors to climate change?!
Let’s teach our students from a young age what sustainable consumption of food looks like, equipping them with the tools to help save the planet!! 🌏❤️ @ozharvestedu#UoNTeach#educ4750#SDG12
Reducing food waste is one of the most effective ways of combating climate change!
That is why we offer #FREE primary school presentations about the impact of #foodwaste, the @OzHarvest Story and tips on how to fight food waste at home and school.

@MissBradford01 @elinkelsey @educ4750 I love ‘The mess that we made’ by Michelle Lord. An eye opening book teaching students about the impact of trash on marine life, whilst simultaneously inspiring and encouraging them to make a difference!
@MissBradford01 I love that there is a focus on Indigenous perspectives, as we have so much to learn from the traditional owners of the land! They lived (and still do) a very #sustainable life with minimal waste and a love and care for the land which provides for them! We have a lot to learn
@MissBradford01 @SAKGF Do you think students enjoyed the kitchen or the garden aspect of this program more? I found students quite uninterested in weeding and watering the plants, but they LOVED cooking and trying new things!
