If the BBC are making cuts, surely radio 4’s News Quiz is an obvious choice. Not funny, not clever, like listening to paint dry. At least You & Yours has a genuine use.
@LHolt99@sharrond62@BBCRadio4 is losing some great shows according to recent news reports - such a shame. But @BBCWomansHour would not be such a loss given the dross of recent years. Keep The World Tonight that reports news and facts and get rid of WH that thinks men can be women and vice versa!
@helensaxby11@BBCWomansHour I have been disappointed with the program for many years now. Hasn’t been the same since Dame Jenni left. It has fundamentally betrayed women on many occasions.
A landmark Finnish study has found a sharp rise in psychiatric illness among adolescents following sex-alteration procedures.
The peer-reviewed study, published in Acta Paediatrica, tracked every young person under 23 who contacted Finland's gender clinics between 1996 and 2019.
A total 2,083 individuals were studied, with 16,643 matched controls. They were followed for up to 25 years.
Finland's health registers are mandatory, which means no one opts out — this is the complete national picture.
The numbers: psychiatric morbidity rose from 9.8% to 60.7% in adolescents who underwent feminising reassignment, and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising reassignment.
Even after adjusting for prior psychiatric history, gender-referred adolescents faced five times the risk of male population controls, and three times the risk of female controls.
"Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment," the authors concluded.
Referrals after 2010 arrived sicker. 47.9% had already needed psychiatric treatment before their first clinic visit, against 15.3% among controls.
The authors' read: for some adolescents, gender distress may be secondary to other mental health challenges.
The evidence keeps mounting. The silencing continues anyway.
How many more adolescents will be told this is "care"?
It's odd, isn't it? I don't believe that women should be forced to segregated from men in public, yet @stellacreasy is fine with it. I do believe they should have the right to be segregated when they're undressing, but Creasy doesn't.
My position is that gender dysphoria is a real, painful condition and that for some adults, the only way they may feel able to resolve that inner conflict is transition. If that’s the road they choose I wish them long life and happiness and I would vigorously oppose any discrimination against them when it comes to employment, housing or voting rights.
I do not believe children have the capacity to consent to treatments that may leave them infertile and, in some cases, anorgasmic. Multiple studies have shown that gender dysphoria in childhood and adolescence is not uncommon, for gay kids particularly, but it also occurs in, for example, straight girls who hate the idea of becoming women and sometimes, tragically, in children who’ve been abused. The available evidence shows that in the majority of cases, gender dysphoria resolves after the person has gone through adolescence. I am strongly opposed to the experimental treatment of blocking puberty in dysphoric children. I believe trans activists have behaved hugely unethically and irresponsibly in pretending that there is good evidence that these treatments are beneficial (there isn’t), that puberty blockers are completely reversible (there is a mounting body of evidence to suggest they aren’t) or that children are likely to kill themselves if denied blockers (there is no evidence to support this and suicide prevention charities warn against making such statements, due to the very real danger of suicide contagion.)
Of course, not all trans-identified people are dysphoric. Erotic transvestism, also known as autogynephilia, (getting a sexual thrill out of dressing as/pretending to be a woman) has been around for a very long time. I believe lesbians are entitled to exclude straight, cross-dressing men from their dating pools without being accused of bigotry and worse (same goes for gay men with trans-identified women). It’s profoundly homophobic to attack gay people for being same-sex attracted.
I don’t believe anyone, adult or child, is ‘born in the wrong body.’ That is an unfalsifiable, quasi-religious belief. A person may *feel* as if they’re in the wrong body, but humans cannot literally change sex. However they identify, men don’t belong in the single-sex spaces for which women fought so hard.
@jk_rowling I stood at my mother’s elbow so many times watching her write out the old style credit card slips (the ones you put in the clicky machine and they gave you a carbon copy of thr receipt) and cheques that I definitely sign my initial and surname exactly like hers throughout osmosis
If you’re unhappy about gender ideology taking hold in institutions, media organisations, schools and universities, do one thing today.
Don’t just post about it on here.
Write one email. Send one letter. Make one phone call. Have one conversation.
Tell your MP, school, university, supermarket, newspaper or broadcaster why you object. Make clear that your concerns are rooted in safeguarding, women’s sex-based rights and the welfare of children.
Remind them that it isn’t kind or compassionate to encourage a child struggling with puberty, growing pains or their sexuality to believe they may have been born in the wrong body.
And challenge one of the most powerful falsehoods used to drive gender-affirming care: that children who question their gender are at imminent risk of suicide unless they receive rapid affirmation and medical intervention. Ask for the evidence. Ask whether the risks have been communicated accurately. Ask why such an extraordinary bogus claim was repeated so confidently for so long.
Then ask yourself how dramatically childhood itself has changed.
Children now grow up immersed in social-media algorithms capable of amplifying anxiety, identity crises and fashionable explanations for distress at extraordinary speed. Yet the same institutions that obsess about misinformation seem remarkably reluctant to ask what role this might have played in propagating a phoney emancipatory movement based on a foundational lie.
So spend a little less time shouting into the social-media void and a little more time contacting the institutions that actually make decisions.
Be polite. Be factual. Keep records. Ask questions they have to answer. And keep doing it.
Institutions change when the people running them realise that staying silent is no longer the easiest option.
NEW: Wales' only adult gender clinic "potential Service of Concern" over high surgery referrals. Independent review two years overdue. Welsh Health minister involved. Referrals continue.

Those who say we should not exclude anyone from sports are quiet when women and girls are permanently excluded after getting injured by male athletes.
They have no sympathy for women who self-exclude because they don't want to compete against men or share locker rooms with men. Instead, they call them bigots.
They are fine with women being excluded from their own sports.
