They Didn’t Build It. They Just Took It.

Washington’s 7th Congressional District—Seattle and its immediate orbit—is no longer a place that feels like the rest of the state. It is a demographic colony. And because it is populous, it now runs the entire show.

Look at the numbers without the usual Seattle Times soft-focus. King County, the heart of the 7th, has seen the share of people actually born in Washington drop to roughly 38%. That is near a century low.

The replacements arrived in two main waves: Californians fleeing the consequences of their own politics, and foreign-born arrivals, heavily concentrated from India, China, and a handful of other countries.

California has been the single largest domestic feeder for years. Los Angeles County, the Bay Area, San Diego—people who voted for the policies that made their home state unaffordable and unlivable packed up and came north. They did not leave the politics behind. They imported them. Oregon is second.

The foreign-born share in King County has climbed past one in four. In the 7th District itself it sits near 19%. India and China lead. These are not small numbers, and they are not evenly distributed. They concentrate in the same urban core that already votes 80%+ Democrat.

The result is predictable: the district that houses the densest concentration of recent arrivals is also the most lopsidedly left-wing district on the West Coast outside California’s coastal strongholds like San Francisco.

This is not organic growth. It is replacement by volume.

The people who grew up here, who paid the taxes that built the universities, the roads, the ports, and the tech infrastructure that later attracted the newcomers, are steadily diluted. Statewide elections are decided in these same few ZIP codes. Rural and eastern Washington can vote 65-70% the other way and still lose. Population density is the only metric that matters under the current system, and the 7th District has it.

The practical effects are visible. Housing costs that price out multi-generational Washington families. Public schools and local governments that treat native-born residents as an afterthought. A political class that treats the rest of the state as a colony to be taxed and lectured.

Crime and disorder that would never have been tolerated in the Washington that existed before the mass inflows. The same progressive experiments that hollowed out California’s middle class are now standard policy in Olympia because the people who demand them live in the districts that control the legislature and the congressional map.

None of this required a conspiracy. It only required open borders, high immigration, and a willingness by coastal elites to treat the rest of the state as surplus population.

California residents who exhausted their own state simply moved the problem north. Foreign-born communities that cluster in one metro area gained outsized political weight the moment their numbers became large enough. The native-born share fell, and with it any realistic chance of reversing course through normal democratic means.

The 7th District is the clearest example. It is not “diverse” in the brochure sense. It is demographically captured. And because Washington awards power by headcount rather than by community or geography, that capture extends to the entire state.

The people who arrived last are now the ones setting the rules for everyone else.
That is not progress. It is conquest by paperwork and birth rates.

49 days ago we landed in the USA to follow our country at the World Cup. We had no idea it would turn into the trip of a lifetime.

Thank you to everyone who followed along, and to all the people we met who made this journey even more special. We honestly don’t have the words to express how grateful we are for everything you did for us.

This trip exceeded every expectation we had. We came here with an open mind, wanting to experience as much of the country as possible. I still remember telling my friends on the flight to Atlanta that I hoped we’d get to meet a few locals on this trip. Now we’re flying home with friends all across the USA.

Before we came, we heard so many stereotypes and warnings about America. People told us about safety concerns, that they might check our social media at the border, and all kinds of other things. None of it matched our experience. This was probably the most welcoming country we’ve ever visited.

So if you have the chance to travel, do it. The world isn’t nearly as bad as the media often makes it seem. 99% of people are awesome!

I heard this quote somewhere during the World Cup, and I think it sums up our experience perfectly:

“If you want to hate the world, watch the news. If you want to love it, travel it.”
